Woodsy panorama in the hills of Marin County
Green Point is a hilly, rural neighborhood that sits between the city of Novato and the mouth of the Petaluma River, where it empties into the San Pablo Bay. Its mountainous, wooded location makes it feel slightly remote, but it’s less than five miles to city attractions, shops and restaurants. “The people who want to live out here are usually looking for more independence, more autonomy,” says Beth Brody of Compass Realty, a longtime agent in the area. “There are a lot of homes that started out as fishing cabins or that were originally built without permits. Some of the roads are still dirt out there. It’s kind of an island unto itself.”

Hiking, hills and local wildlife
The neighborhood is close to an access point to the Bahia Trail, a 4-mile loop through the hills that skirts a wetland marsh. The trail’s colorful wildflower blooms and massive oak trees make for some nice sightseeing, especially during the spring and summer months. Deer Island Preserve is at the southern edge of the neighborhood. This 154-acre nature reserve is a great place for spotting roaming herds of deer, red-shouldered hawks, pelicans and wild lilies growing in the marsh. Avid golfers can tee up nearby at the Stone Tree Golf Club, an 18-hole course with mountain views from the fairways.
