What to expect from Oakdale’s rustic setting and location
Oakdale is known for its laid-back country feel, with cattle farms in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Known as the "Cowboy Capital of the World," it has a well-established rodeo culture, a rustic downtown and acres of rolling farmland within a short drive of the city. While removed from Highway 99 and the beaten path of the Central Valley, it still has quick access to industry hubs like Stockton and Modesto.

What home sizes and prices look like across Oakdale
Architectural styles include New Traditional, contemporary and ranch-style homes, some with fenced-in gardens and oak trees along wide streets. Home prices range from the mid $200,000s to the upper $900,000s. You can live a rural lifestyle on the town's outskirts. Neighborhoods such as East Oakdale are home to large estate-style builds, ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 square feet. Homes in Oakdale are typically smaller but share similar layouts and styles. "Oakdale is a more rural community. It is the closest [Modesto area community] to the foothills and the Sierras," says Kristopher Losole, a real estate agent at PMZ Real Estate. "As you leave town and work your way up, there are a lot of ranchettes between one and five acres with horse barns."
Newer homes throughout Oakdale include Craftsman-style architecture.

Why families value Oakdale schools and athletics
School choice in Oakdale Joint Unified centers on interdistrict transfer requests, which it reviews and grants based on capacity and policy. With no magnet programs and no published open-enrollment plan, placement remains tied to residence. The district also has many highly rated schools, such as Fair Oaks Elementary, Cloverland Elementary, Oakdale Junior High and Oakdale High School, which has a stellar academic and athletic reputation. "We're a huge football town. Everybody's in the stands cheering every Friday night," says Dan Phipps, Team Lead at Professional Realty Associates. "This is the kind of place where everybody knows everybody. We take a lot of pride in our small-town atmosphere."
Fair Oaks Elementary School serves younger students.

Major employers include food processing and healthcare facilities
Agriculture and food processing are vital industries in the valley. ConAgra Foods Hunt's employs thousands at a tomato processing facility in town. Sconza Chocolates is a confectionery and candy manufacturing warehouse. Healthcare professionals work at the Oak Valley Hospital District, which has an emergency room 5 minutes west of the town center.
River trips, lake days and a private golf course
Within a 20-minute drive, there are two major attractions for cooling off on the water. Knight's Ferry is a popular place to drop kayaks and take a four-hour float down the Stanislaus River toward Riverbank. Woodward Reservoir Park has a large blue lake and distant views of the desert mountains. Take your canines to the Oakdale Dog Park to let them run in wide-open, fenced-in spaces. Yosemite National Park is about 70 miles east. "You can get to the foothills in 15 minutes and the Sierra Nevada Mountains in half an hour. There is also a nice country club with an 18-hole golf course," Losole says. Oakdale Golf and Country Club members play on a private course with narrow rolling fairways.

Rodeo traditions and attractions showcase cowboy culture
The equestrian and farmhand culture is on full display at the Oakdale Rodeo, one of the largest in California. The town has many attractions and events throughout the year, including:
Celebrating the town's cowboy culture at the Oakdale Rodeo, with a parade, calf roping and a dance during the second week in April.
Learning about the region's wrangling history at the Oakdale Cowboy Museum.
Bringing lawn chairs and blankets to Dorado Park to watch live outdoor concerts on Fridays in the summer.
Downtown offers walkable boutiques, breweries and a rustic vibe
Downtown Oakdale feels like somewhere right out of a Hallmark movie. There is a variety of single-story boutiques adjacent to Main Street. Eat at one of the town’s many breweries and restaurants, such as Backwoods Burgers or Gold Dust Pizza. Try award-winning, Holland-style cheese at Oakdale Cheese & Specialties. Pick up groceries at Save Mart or Raley’s.
Shop for anything you need at shopping centers, like Oak Ridge Plaza.

How residents commute to Central Valley cities and services
State Route 120 goes through the center of Oakdale. It connects to California Route 99, which leads to multiple cities in the Central Valley. The StanRTA bus system serves the county, with stops along F Street. Modesto is about 15 miles southwest, which is a 30-minute drive. The Stockton Metropolitan Airport is approximately 40 minutes northwest of Oakdale, making it easy to reach other cities.
