A small residential neighborhood 15 miles outside San Francisco, Allendale offers residents easy access to a nearby train station, cute local restaurants, and a historical park. Local businesses are popular in the area, and one of its big draws, according to Veronica Gray, a Realtor with Compass and 27-year Oakland resident who’s sold properties in the neighborhood. “Specialty shops open up because of the location. Allendale benefits from that.” Gray also says the area is friendly, and neighbors tend to know each other. The neighborhood even has a block party night alongside National Night Out, a citywide block party night hosted by the city in early August. “Oakland has a block party night; Allendale has one of its own.” This sense of community starts throughout Oakland and lives along the streets of Allendale.

Fitness fiends flock to the Allendale Recreation Center, which mixes indoor and outdoor recreation activities and community-focused programs, like ESL or after-school programs for the kids.
