Community staying power in Castlemont
East Oakland’s Castlemont neighborhood is situated at the base of Oakland Hills. For many Oakland residents, their community and family are centered in Oakland, and that drives homebuying in the area, especially for buyers who grew up in east Oakland. “People don’t want to leave their family members,” says Jim Garrett, a Realtor with Better Homes Realty/McArthur who’s been selling Bay Area real estate for 40 years. “Their doctors are here; their businesses are here. If they move an hour away from Oakland they don’t want to make that commute.”
Castlemont is a stone's throw away from the beautiful Oakland hills.

Getting around Castlemont
Castlemont has plenty of access to public transportation, be it the Bay Area Rapid Transit at the nearby Oakland Coliseum or the San Francisco Bay Ferry. Castlemont is several blocks back from International Blvd, the area’s main drag. It’s home to many of the area’s businesses and leads drivers throughout Oakland and beyond. Living in Castlemont cuts down on the commute to see friends, family, and to get to work, even if it means a lower mortgage payment. “If they move away they could get a cheaper house,” says Garrett. “But, they don’t want that hour and a half commute five or six days a week.” For international travel, the Oakland International Airport is about four miles away. The San Leandro Hospital is also about four miles from Castlemont.
The Oakland Coliseum BART station connects Castlemont to the greater Bay Area.
