The many parks around Columbia Gardens
Deer, coyotes and redwood trees are common sights at nearby William “Bill” Patterson Park. Located within the same complex as the park are the East Oakland Sports Center and Ira Jinkins Community Center. Both include indoor and outdoor athletic facilities as well as afterschool care and seasonal camps for children. Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline is west of the neighborhood and has trails, picnic areas and boat launches. San Leandro Bay is northwest of the neighborhood and offers plenty of shoreline for bird watching and hiking. The Arrowhead Marsh Boardwalk and Trail and the Metropolitan Golf Links course are both close by for more recreational options.

Interstate 880 borders the eastern side of Columbia Gardens, running parallel to the eastern shores of San Francisco Bay. This interstate allows drivers to reach as far as San Jose, bridging Alameda County to Silicon Valley. Public transit is provided by the Alameda-Contra Costa (AC) buses that wind through the neighborhood. Oakland International Airport is just a mile away, making it quick and easy to catch flights nearby.
