Santa Fe
Charming Craftsman builds throughout the neighborhood
Santa Fe’s architecture tells the story of a neighborhood in existence since the twilight of the Old West. The oldest houses in Santa Fe date to the 1890s, and many more were built from the 1900s to 1920s, though they've been modernized in recent decades. These vintage properties range in sale price from $575,000 to $1.6 million. A handful of newer homes have been built from the 1970s to the late 2010s, selling for between $1 million and $1.3 million. Tudor Revival, Craftsman and Spanish Colonial styles are widespread, reflecting the Bay Area’s shared Spanish and Anglo history. The occasional white picket fence can be found at the entrance to Santa Fe’s residences, all of which have sidewalk access and most small front gardens.Shopping and dining in nearby Emeryville
Adeline Street is the neighborhood's main retail corridor and connects it to downtown Berkeley. Lois the Pie Queen dishes a taste of Southern hospitality along with servings of pies, fried chicken and catfish within a dining room decked out with photos and vintage décor. Al-Maida Hot Food and Market offers Pakistani cuisine while also selling halal groceries and imported goods. Grocery options are not limited to brand names like Trader Joe’s and Safeway; the Berkeley Bowl Marketplace on Adeline Street specializes in fresh produce and gourmet products.Multiple schools serve the community
Sankofa United Elementary School receives a B-minus rating from Niche, while Claremont Middle School scores a B-plus and Oakland Technical High School receives an A. Oakland Tech, modelled after the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s science building, offers pathways in computer science, health, law, fashion, engineering among other fields.Residents find fresh air and exercise at Bushrod Park
While Santa Fe may be a small and heavily urbanized neighborhood, small parks are not far away. Temescal Creek Park, located at the neighborhood’s southwest corner, includes a playground, a basketball court and short walking paths. Hidden away along 47th Street, the Temescal Community Garden allows residents to tend small plots of their own. Four blocks east of Santa Fe, Bushrod Park features four basketball courts, two baseball fields and a large playground. The neighboring Bushrod Recreation Center offers a weight room and basketball and volleyball courts, as well as youth soccer and baseball events. The Pixar Animation Studios are about a mile west of the neighborhood, but it is not open to the public.BART and freeways make it easy to get around
Santa Fe’s location just off State Route 24 puts it within a 3-mile drive from downtown Oakland and a 12-mile journey from the center of San Francisco. This neighborhood is also just a few blocks away from the Ashby BART Station, which can reach downtown Oakland within 15 minutes and San Francisco after 25. Santa Fe is home to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. While it's a major employer and makes healthcare more convenient in Santa Fe, it is also a bustling, 24-hor campus.
