A cozy neighborhood 5 miles from the beachfront
Spanish for "behold the coast," the Mira Costa residential community offers a comfortable pace that's removed from the beachfront buzz, though the sparkling ocean expanse is just 5 miles west. Mira Costa is just a few miles from Downtown Oceanside and Buccaneer Beach. Locals can bike to a country club and a longstanding college situated on a hill within the neighborhood. According to Brian Thornton of Thornton Realty, a Realtor who's been selling homes in the area for decades, "The neighborhood offers a lot of different types of housing, with HOAs, so you don't have any haphazard development; it's all very harmonized. Some streets are completely private, others are public. And there's a gated senior community, as well as a gated condo project near MiraCosta College."

Smaller houses and attached homes are found in the 55-and-better community of Costa Serena. Many midcentury styles are nicely maintained or remodeled, and some residences border community parks. There are also lightly colored Mediterranean styles built in the 1990s. Prices range from $425,000 for a condo to $1.3 million for an upgraded pool home with golf course views.

Home to MiraCosta College
On the western side of the community, Mira Costa College serves more than 20,000 students. Thornton adds, "It's a real advantage living in Mira Costa to be able to bike or walk to the college. A lot of the students there transition to UC San Diego or San Diego State University. And while it's a suburban area around the campus, you can still head to the beach to surf or go the Farmers Market in Oceanside. It's a great area that's close to the ocean breezes, but you don't get that San Diego fog. It's the best of both worlds, really."
