DuPont influenced community
Originally known as Dupontonia, in honor of the DuPont rayon factory in the community, Lakeside has evolved from a factory town to an up-and-coming Nashville neighborhood. DuPont had a big role in developing the neighborhood and many of the homes on the banks of Old Hickory Lake and the Cumberland River were once homes for company executives. “It has the charm of older homes with beautiful vistas,” says Michelle Mazzu of Crye-Leike, Inc. “I feel like Lakewood will be the next big thing.” She adds that the neighborhood has been attracting musicians and artists.
Large colorful townhomes are also an option in Lakewood.

The Cumberland River provides plenty of activities
Known for its hiking trail and lake with a beaver lodge, Crooked Branch Park and Greenway is a popular spot for hikers and locals who want to observe nature. Anglers who enjoy fishing head to the Cumberland River — the most common catches are brown trout, rainbow trout, striped bass and walleye. The 1,150 acres of open space along the Shelby Bottoms Greenway on the west side of the river are perfect for hiking, bird watching and wildlife viewing. It also features wetlands, a nature center and a baseball diamond. The waterway also holds cruises seasonally on the General Jackson Showboat. For residents who would rather stay indoors, the Looking West Art Gallery is where people go to purchase paintings. The Lakewood Theatre Co. has entertained patrons for 30 years and encourages the community to audition for plays and performances.
Lakewood residents can store their boat at the large Blue Turtle Bay Marina.
Enjoy a lake side lunch at the Shutes Branch Recreation Area next door in Green Hill.

There’s a diversity of housing, including mid-century builds
Homes in Lakewood cost between $358,000 and $3 million and lots are around 20,908 square feet. Mazzu says the housing styles consist of new builds, mid-century homes built in the 1940s and 1950s, cottages and ranch-style homes. “There’s been a lot of push for the preservation of older homes,” says Mazzu, who has been selling homes in the area for five years. Since Lakewood is an older neighborhood, most trees in the community are mature. Old Hickory Village is very walkable, Mazzu says, a rarity in Nashville. Nashville has only 1,325 miles of sidewalks. Conversely, the region has 4,600 miles of missing side

Sam's Sports Grill at Blue Turtle Bay is one of the only eateries in the neighborhood. The restaurant features pizzas and burgers. The eatery also has an extensive house specialties menu.
