Suburban Neighborhood in Omaha, Nebraska
Douglas County 68152
When you’re determined to live in a certain neighborhood, finding a new home is much easier when there are a variety of prices and styles to discover. That is certainly what you’ll find in Far North Omaha, a somewhat heavily wooded 12-mile area, surrounding the 162 acres of Omaha Country Club. “What sets this neighborhood apart from others nearby,” says Warren Wood, Realtor with The Rensch Group/NP Dodge Real Estate, “is that it has much larger lots, plenty of mature trees and it’s really quite private. But even with all the privacy and relative seclusion, you still have quick access to downtown.” Wood adds "While this neighborhood is fairly exclusive, there is a significant price point variance, from small ranch-style homes to luxury custom homes, you'll see prices range from about $250,000 to over $1 million."
CHI Health Immanuel is located in the southwest corner of the neighborhood and is highly regarded for its cancer center, rehabilitation center and spine center. Residents can easily commute to downtown Omaha in less than 15 minutes. Closer to home you’ll find restaurants, parks, golf courses and shopping. Homes in the area run the gamut from 5,000-square-foot executive mansions to four-bedroom split-level homes from the 1960s. A five-bedroom, three-story, stone and Hardiplank-siding mansion located in the Country Club Oaks subdivision was listed for $775,000. You can find well-updated four-bedroom split-level homes with a one-car garage for around $225,000.
Many North Omaha homes are within walking distance of, or a very short drive to local elementary and middle schools. The Pinewood Panthers attend pre-K through fifth grade. They offer a unique Superintendents’ Plan for Success that has created resources for families with children from birth to Grade 3. This creates a supportive connection between the school and neighborhood families, even if the students are not yet school age. Nathan Hale Magnet is a highly diverse middle school serving kids from sixth through eighth grade. To honor the school’s namesake, the magnet theme is Leadership and Social Justice. Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles in school and in the larger community fulfilling the belief that young people can shape the future of our nation in positive ways. Omaha Northwest Magnet High offers a Freshman Academy to help students plan for success throughout their high school career. It also offers more than 40 honors programs.
Omaha Country Club is in the exact center of Far North Omaha and has been an enduring fixture in the community since its founding in 1899. As a well-known and well-respected golf club, it has twice hosted the U.S. Senior Open over the past 10 years. Al Veys Park offers 24 acres of green space, walking trails and five baseball fields, which welcome Little League players throughout the spring and fall season. When you’re ready to put your own touches to your new yard or gardens, a visit to The Big Garden will provide you with everything you could possibly want.
Special occasions or a “just because” night out are perfect reasons to visit Au Courant Regional Kitchen. New European creations with an admirable emphasis on regional ingredients as well as a six-course chef’s tasting menu will delight more than just your taste buds. After a long week you may just want to grab the family and go somewhere good and easy. Yummy Crab will satisfy the pickiest seafood lovers.
Sorensen Park Plaza offers more than 20 stores and restaurants from Target and PetSmart to Vaiv Apparel and Ross Dress for Less. Several grocery stores and fresh food markets are a short drive from home. New Lifestyle Asian Market offers fresh foods and hard-to-find staples, sauces and spices. Baker’s supermarket has everything your new kitchen will need, plus a pharmacy and a garden center.
While Far North Omaha offers a wide range of home styles and prices, there aren’t many on the market at one time, so when you find one that grabs your attention, don’t hesitate. Like the perfect pitch in baseball or an easy putt in golf, you’re wise to take it when you can because they don’t come along often.
