Keystone is a large residential neighborhood in north Omaha.
What sets Keystone apart from other Omaha neighborhoods
Keystone is a northern Omaha neighborhood that grew from open pastures and farmland during the post-World War II era. Today, its winding, tree-lined boulevards help set it apart from the city’s other residential areas, many of which follow standard grid layouts. Large, shaded lots are another distinguishing feature, and homes often sell at prices below the citywide median. With grocery options, local restaurants and several parks within the neighborhood, Keystone has built a solid foundation for its residents.
Families often stay in Keystone’s established homes for generations
Most Keystone residences are single-family homes. While no two are exactly alike, midcentury ranch-style and split-level designs are common. Land parcels are generous by city standards, with many measuring a quarter to a third of an acre. “We raised our family in the same home I was raised in. We find that very common here,” says Linda Carpenter, a Realtor with BHHS Ambassador who frequently organizes neighborhood events. “I just sold a house to a third generation — a cute young couple in the neighborhood whose parents and grandparents all live in Keystone.” The median home sale price of $265,000 is below the citywide median, and properties typically sell from the lower $100,000s to the upper $400,000s. “There’s a wide range of price points,” Carpenter says.

Comparing Keystone to Benson and other nearby neighborhoods
Homebuyers might also expand their search to the surrounding area, depending on their priorities. For example, if you want to be within walking distance of restaurants and nightlife, the adjoining Benson neighborhood might be the answer. Cafes, beer gardens and live music venues line the Maple Street thoroughfare, and home prices are often even lower than they are in Keystone. Other folks might prefer living close to major highways for easy commuting. If that’s a priority, you might consider Prairie Lane or Maple Village. Both offer easy access to Interstate 680; however, some areas are prone to traffic noise as a result. They’re also smaller neighborhoods, so housing inventory is usually lower.
Dining spots and everyday shopping around Keystone
Keystone has several dining and drinking spots that reflect the neighborhood’s close-knit character. Friends can meet up at the following spots:
Keystone Kafe, a classic diner open for breakfast and lunch
Soul Brothers Inc, serving wings and Tex-Mex favorites
Jim & Jennie’s Greek Village, featuring Mediterranean flavors
Keystone Tavern & Grill, the place to go for burgers, pizza and other pub grub
Rudy’s, a Christmas-themed bar that keeps the holiday spirit alive all year long
Local shops range from practical to whimsical. You can pick up landscaping supplies at Hughes Mulch Products and floral arrangements from Piccolo’s Florist, then browse through the shelves at the House of Trains hobby store. For groceries, there’s an Aldi on North 90th Street. Since the neighborhood is so large, you’ll probably need to rely on a car for errands.
Rudy's bar is a great place to enjoy the decorations and unwind.

The neighborhood is part of Omaha Public Schools. Depending on their address, students can start at Boyd Elementary or Adams Elementary, both of which are in the neighborhood. For a private option, Marian High is a short drive from most Keystone homes. The all-girls Catholic high school receives an A from Niche.

The Keystone Trail invites walkers, joggers and cyclists to log some miles.
Where to find parks and trails throughout the neighborhood
Keystone Park’s central location makes it a convenient gathering spot. Kids can romp around the playground or run around on the grass, and tennis courts invite organized games. There are plenty of shaded areas for picnics as well. On the western side of the neighborhood, Esther Pilster Park has a baseball diamond with spectator seating. The Keystone Trail, a paved multiuse path, runs through the park alongside the Little Papillion Creek. Walkers, joggers and cyclists can use the trail to log their daily miles and connect to other trail systems throughout the city. For summertime fun, the Keystone Klub Pool is a members-only swim club that hosts lessons, an adult sand volleyball league and aquatic events like the annual “Doggie Dip.”
Commuting to downtown Omaha and major employers
Keystone is 6 or 7 miles from Downtown Omaha and major Midtown employers like Mutual of Omaha and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Omaha Metro bus routes cover the area, but commuting by bus can be time-consuming in this part of the city. If you drive, you should be able to reach downtown and Midtown Omaha destinations in 15 to 20 minutes as long as traffic is light.
Neighborhood events and the Keystone Community Task Force
The Keystone Community Task Force was established in the 1960s, when many of the neighborhood’s homes were built. When you live in Keystone, you’re an automatic member of the KCTF, no fees required. Volunteers meet throughout the year to discuss initiatives and plan community events, which may include:
Keystone Concert in the Park, an outdoor music gathering
Keystone Block Party, a family-friendly summer celebration
Keystone Center Cruise Night, a weekly showcase of classic cars that typically runs throughout spring and summer
