Families move to Meadow Lane for its convenient location
Meadow Lane is a family friendly neighborhood wedged between Interstate 680 and U.S. Route 6, locally known as Dodge Road. Kids can walk to Omaha Public Schools, a Little League complex and other lively green spaces, like Meadow Lane Park. Several corporate offices are in the neighborhood, and easy highway access helps commuters get to downtown Omaha, less than 10 miles east. This suburban environment and convenient location are what attract homebuyers. “Most people move to Meadow Lane to raise kids and get to work quickly,” says Aubrey Hess, a Realtor with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate who has sold several houses in the area. “It has mature trees, sidewalks and spacious lawns, and then you can get on the highway in just a few short minutes.”
Meadow Lane has mature trees and sidewalks
Ranch-style, bi-level and split-level homes dot Meadow Lane’s sidewalk-lined streets. Oak and elm trees often shade lawns, and the median lot size is nearly a quarter-acre. Houses typically have three to four bedrooms and garages. Prices can range from about $220,000 to around $500,000, depending on the house’s size and condition. Several apartment complexes are also in the neighborhood, with just under half of the residents renting.
Kids can walk to Omaha Public Schools
Omaha Public Schools serves Meadow Lane. Kids can attend Crestridge Magnet School and Beveridge Magnet Middle, both of which earn Cs from Niche. They may continue to C-plus-rated Harry A. Burke High, which offers college and career pathways in communications, aviation and business. Crestridge Magnet is in the neighborhood, and the high school sits less than a mile west of some houses. The A-rated St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic School is on the neighborhood’s southern edge. Several other houses of worship are in the area, including Christ Community Church and St. Luke United Methodist Church, which has a child development center.
Meadow Lane Park has trails, while Lamp Park is a baseball hub
Walking paths stretch through hardwood forests and past streams at Meadow Lane Park, which also has a playground and pickleball courts. The nearly 10-mile-long Big Papio Trail is accessible on the neighborhood’s east side and connects with other neighborhood parks and recreational facilities, like the Miracle Hill Golf & Tennis Center. People pack bleachers around Lamp Park’s baseball diamonds during Little League games, which are taken very seriously in Omaha. “Baseball is big in this city,” Hess says. “Parents will treat Little League games like it’s the MLB.” The College World Series happens every year at Charles Schwab Field on Creighton University’s campus downtown. Meadow Lane is also just east of the Deer Ridge Pool and the Jewish Community Center of Omaha, home to a fitness center, more pools and several athletic programs.
Offices are near restaurants in Meadow Lane
The business park in Meadow Lane’s northern section has offices for companies like Charles Schwab and Cox Media. Several restaurants are in the same area, including local chains like Stories Coffee Company and Fernando’s Café & Cantina. People order cocktails around the diamond-shaped bar at Green Onion Lounge, which regularly hosts karaoke nights and decades-themed parties. Grocery stores like Hy-Vee, Costco Wholesale and Trader Joe’s are less than 3 miles away. Westroads Mall, about 2 miles east, is Nebraska’s largest shopping center, anchored by Von Maur and Dick’s Sporting Goods. A few hospitals are less than 5 miles away, including Methodist Hospital.
Dodge Road and I-680 may back up during rush hour
The Dodge Road and I-680 interchange on Meadow Lane’s northeastern corner may experience heavy traffic. “Rush hour can get pretty busy around here because people are getting off the highway for the office buildings in the neighborhood, and others are getting on it to work downtown,” Hess says. Dodge Road offers a direct route to downtown Omaha, where major employers include Union Pacific and Nebraska Medicine. A 17-mile drive northeast on I-680 takes drivers to Eppley Airfield. Omaha Metro Transit provides bus rides around the city.
