Outdoor enthusiasts and amateur athletes are a common sight around Wynnewood/Brookfield. You’ll see them coming and going to local golf courses, heading out to one of several nearby fitness centers, and running, biking or hiking through this neighborhood of about 400 homes. With views of hillsides in every direction and an uncongested and lush setting, going for a run or walk hardly seems like a to-do item. Nearby neighborhoods are similarly quiet and roomy, providing a bit of relative safety to pedestrians and bikers than in more urban areas. Another reason homeseekers gravitate toward Wynnewood/Brookfield, is for its attractive and updated midcentury modern homes. As Will Hagel, Realtor with BHHS Ambassador Real Estate says, “Neighborhoods in this area are distinguished by the prevalence of competitively priced, mid-century modern homes, which are becoming quite popular again. Homebuyers are often surprised to find so many of them well-updated or fully renovated.”

Three-bedroom split-level homes from the 1990s can be found for around $210,000 to $250,000. Updated brick ranch-style homes have sold in the last six months of 2023 for $300,000 to $320,000. Homes in Wynnewood/Brookfield were mostly built from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, but you'll find a smattering of new construction or whole-house renovations. Mature hardwood trees line the paved sidewalks, and streets lead to parks, schools, churches and Sorensen Parkway, a popular east-west connector to downtown Omaha.

Springville Elementary serves children from kindergarten through fifth grade and has a C-plus rating from Niche. Nathan Hale Magnet offers sixth through eighth grade and has a highly diverse student population. To honor the school’s namesake, the chosen magnet theme is Leadership and Social Justice. Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles in school and in the larger community fulfilling the belief that young people can shape the future of our nation in positive ways. Niche gives Omaha Northwest Magnet High an overall C grade. Its popular Freshman Academy helps students plan for success throughout high school. It also offers more than 40 honors programs. Marian Catholic High School is an all-girls college preparatory school that has an A rating from Niche. It has been highly regarded in the area since its founding in 1955.

There are about 10 Omaha parks surrounding Wynnewood/Brookfield and none are more than a five-minute drive from home. Nearby Saddle Hills Park features three and a half acres with a playground, basketball and tennis courts, a picnic area and plenty of open space for chasing the kids or walking the dog. Golfers will enjoy living close to Benson Championship Golf Course, one of eight municipal Omaha courses known for its consistently excellent condition. Little Papillion Creek runs south through the center of the neighborhood, on its way toward the Missouri River.

When you’re craving authentic Mexican cuisine, head over to Muchacho Alegre for lunch, dinner or takeout. Try their popular fajita bowl. Seafood lovers will appreciate Yummy Crab’s all-day pick-up menu and plenty of kid-friendly items. Onsite dining is available but get there early as it’s often busy. Fans rave about the steamed shrimp and crab legs.

For trendy and funky clothes and accessories, check out Vaiv Apparel. Ross Dress for Less is on the south edge of the neighborhood and is also a great place for housewares for your new home. Bakers and Home Depot are in the neighborhood just off Blair High Road and will make it easy to pick up groceries and home improvement items.

After a busy day working or parenting or unpacking your new home, be sure to take a minute to just breathe and take in the views of the north Omaha hillsides and the well-loved homes welcoming you to Wynnewood/Brookfield.
