Active, established community

Ranch-style and traditional multilevel homes
Midcentury-modern homes are prevalent among Dover’s single-family housing, which also includes ranch-style and traditional multi-level homes. “It’s an area of more established homes that were mostly built from the mid-1950s through the 1980s. There’s occasional new construction, but it’s rare,” says Warriner. A small collection of newer homes can be found between Lake Underhill and Lake Arnold. These larger custom residences come in a variety of plans and range in price from $600,000 to $800,000. The established homes typically list between $400,000 and $800,000.

Parks with aircrafts and walking trails
Lake Underhill Park on the neighborhood’s northwest side features a paved waterfront trail loop that connects to several smaller parks nearby, including Colonel Joe Kittinger Park, which features an F-4 Phantom aircraft as the centerpiece of a Vietnam War memorial, and Park of the Americas, which features another waterfront loop. “If you are outdoorsy and like to walk or bike, you have the ability to do so in Dover,” says Warriner. Demetree Park is a 25-acre community green space that features a series of boardwalks and pathways linking three residential lakes. “Demetree Park has changed over the years,” says Warriner. “It used to be all swampland and citrus groves, but when the homes were developed, the city turned Demetree into a three-lake park. Now there are tennis courts and basketball courts and you can fish in the lakes. It’s just a lovely outdoor atmosphere.” Community activity also takes place at the Dover Shores Community Center, where residents can swim in the pool and take advantage of educational and fitness classes for all ages. The center also hosts youth afterschool and summer camps.

Mexican, Indian and Italian restaurants
For the active Dover resident looking to refuel, the neighborhood offers what Warriner describes as “a great little array of restaurants.” Popular dining destinations include Oh! Que Bueno, a Colombian bar and grill and Friends Indian Cuisine, which features a variety of biryani dishes. Pizza Bruno is known as much for its garlic knots as its Neapolitan-style pizza. Dover is also home to Sedano’s, a popular, family-owned Latin supermarket chain. “They have weekly specials, and the lines will be out the door,” Warriner says.

It’s so close to everything,” says Warriner. “The airport is right there, you can hop on 408 and quickly be in Winter Garden or New Smyrna or Cocoa Beach. There’s proximity to the hip and trendy neighborhoods like Gateway, Hourglass and Thornton Park.” Thornton Park is mere blocks from downtown Orlando. “If you want to ride your bike downtown, it’s more than feasible,” adds Warriner.
