Southern Oaks
Buyers find a mix of ranches, bungalows and condo communities
The neighborhood is a collection of small subdivisions that are filled with late 20th-century ranches, bungalows and new traditionals, costing between $350,000 and $500,000. Homes sit on tidy, woodsy lots and many have enough backyard space for a swimming pool or Florida room. These homes have classic Mediterranean-inspired details with curved arches, tiled roofs and stucco walls. Most of these communities are not in a homeowner’s association, but those that are, have fees that are typically less than $25. There are also numerous million-dollar mansions along Lake Pinelock, Lake Willisara and Lake Jennie Jewel. Condos and townhouses are also available, typically costing between $150,000 and $350,000.Lakeside parks and recreation centers in Southern Oaks
Residents head to Big Oak Park for scenic views of Lake Jennie Jewel and to relax under the lush shade canopies. “The lakes are super popular here, especially for boating and fishing. Lake Conway has a public boat launch where you’ll find a lot of people on the weekends,” Bowyer says. For even more amenities, residents take a short drive to Barber Park, which has a fishing pond, skate park and roller rink. There are also pickleball and volleyball courts and a splash playground. The nearby Cypress Grove Park has a cricket pitch, volleyball field and dog park. Residents can hike the nature trail through the cypress trees, let the kids climb the playground, or stop for lunch underneath the picnic pavilion at Wadeview Park. When locals want a bit of lakeside leisure, they stop by Lake Davis Park for a stroll amongst the wildlife. Boone High School has a stellar A grade on Niche and offers students early college credits through dual enrollment at nearby Valencia College.Close to restaurants, shopping centers and Florida attractions
Residents have lakeside dinners at The Waterfront, a beach shack-themed restaurant where residents can enjoy ahi tuna nachos while looking out over Lake Jennie Jewel. “One of the biggest benefits of living here is that there is so much shopping and dining nearby,” Bowyer says. “There are so many places to eat and breweries like Gatlin Brewery that are popular.” Locals love hanging out at Gringos Locos SODO, a taqueria that’s been voted the best taco and best late-night restaurant for nearly a decade by Orlando Weekly. Residents can also fill up on hand-trimmed barbecue or hickory smoke brisket at Cecil’s Texas Style Bar-B-Q, a roadhouse cafeteria that gives free ice cream cones to guests.
