About Overland, MO

Suburban living with access to St. Louis

Planes flying overhead serve as a reminder that Overland is not just a charming small community. Overland is a city within St. Louis County that instills a suburban lifestyle with urban amenities. “It’s a nice, small community that is centrally located,” says Jackie Wasser, Owner of Jenah Realty Group. “There’s a ton of community events, and [it's] very walkable.” The Historic Overland Trail ran through the town and connected pioneers to expansive green space as far west as California. Today, the days of cowboys and cattle are over, but the outdoors can still be enjoyed in the city-maintained parks.

Close proximity to the airport

Proximity is the name of the game in Overland, as residents are under 5 miles away from St. Louis Lambert International Airport. While planes overhead can be noisy, residents can enjoy the quick commute to travel to several domestic and international destinations. Interstate 170 runs through the eastern end of the community and connects to downtown St. Louis 14 miles away. Overland has multiple bus stops making public transportation a viable option as well.

Head to Overland Plaza for retail shopping

Chimi’s Fresh-Mex is a popular local eatery famous for its sizzling fajitas and margaritas. There’s always a line at Skeeters Frozen Custard as residents love to try the frozen treats and new flavors of custard. Retail shopping can be found at Overland Plaza, and Schnucks Overland provides fresh produce and groceries to the area. St. Louis is known for jazz music and Fred Pierce’s Studio Drum Shop has helped to keep the band playing since 1972 with its catalogue of drums and repair services. Overland has many different houses of worship to represent the different faiths within the community.

Housing variety in a walkable community

Many of the homes date back to the early 1900s and have a variety of housing styles. “Overland has a mix of starter homes and older residences,” says Wasser. “Prices range from 120,000 to 250,000, and the market is very competitive.” Minimal Cape Cods and Flat Brick Ranchers can be found on loosely grided, tree-lined streets. Walkability is a big factor, and many residents can walk to local parks and restaurants. The gated community at Lake Sherwood has modern farmhouses with lakefront views that sell for more than $500,000. Multifamily options are available at Meadowbrook Townhomes.
