Overland Park offers all necessary essentials on KC's outskirts

Just 20 miles south of Kansas City is the community of Overland Park. An active region containing great schools and a wealth of food and entertainment options, it's no mystery why Overland Park has become one of the more popular residential landing spots in the entire state of Kansas. "You never have to go anywhere else," says Overland Park resident and Re/Max Real Estate Broker Pat Tholen. "Anything you need is just around the corner."

Single-family homes of all shapes and sizes dominate Overland Park

Overland Park's winding, tree-shaded streets feature a sea of single-family homes contained within several notable subdivisions. The Shannon Valley development features split-level and ranch-style homes with Tudor and colonial accents while Hawthorne offers more contemporary builds along the lake. A 2,000-square-foot home can price between $300,000 and $450,000 while larger properties with five or more bedrooms may range from $500,000 to north of $1 million. The housing market in Overland Park is competitive with many homes selling within three to four weeks of their listing.

Overland Park has attractions for art lovers and hikers alike

Overland Park residents won't need to travel far to spend time outdoors. Locals often visit Roe Park to access the 10-mile Indian Creek Trail, which connects to several other area parks, including Heatherstone Park off Pflumm Road. Golfers can book a weekend tee time at Brookridge Golf & Fitness or enjoy a night out with friends at Topgolf off Nall Avenue while lovers of the arts frequent Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, which is stationed on the community college's campus and offers a host of sculptures and paintings for its 100,000 annual visitors, or the nearby Museum at Prairiefire. Aspiria, a central hub in the heart of Overland Park that previously housed the Sprint headquarters, is also expected to undergo major changes with the development of a mixed-use campus containing office space, restaurants and an Andretti Indoor Karting & Games venue. The Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens draws guests as well, not only for its many types of flora, but for the Terra Luna event in September — a mind-bending occasion that offers dream-like strolls along the gardens' illuminated paths.
