Sharp Park
Pies and Peruvian food along Palmetto Avenue
Palmetto Avenue, which runs through Sharp Park, serves as Pacifica’s downtown dining area. Over a dozen restaurants and cafes sit along this street and Francisco Boulevard, and they include a bagel shop and several cafes. El Toro Loco specializes in coastal Peruvian cuisine, including deep fried fish and ceviche. Kitten & Pinky is locally known for its hefty banh mi sandwiches and other Vietnamese staples. Despite its small size, Shampa’s Pies has become a small sensation in the Bay Area, selling highly rated, organic lemon and pecan pies both here and at the regional Filoli Harvest Festival. Sharp Park also has a Safeway and an Oceana Market for grocery needs, while the Serramonte Center shopping mall is just a 5-mile drive up the Cabrillo Highway.Golfing and hiking along the Pacific Ocean
Sharp Park takes its name from the oceanside Sharp Park Golf Course, which was designed by the prolific architect Alister MacKenzie in 1931. This 18-hole, par 72 public course was granted historical protection by the state in 2017 and has won the praise of countless golf greats, among them Ken Venturi, over the years. Sharp Park has no shortage of scenic views, including from the Pacifica Pier and the cliffside Mori Point. Milagra Ridge’s hiking trails lead past a decommissioned, Cold War-era missile site and to a panoramic vista of Pacifica and the ocean. Pacifica State Beach has been a hotspot of surfing for decades and is also home to a skatepark.Hillside and oceanfront homes in Sharp Park
Even though Europeans first arrived in Pacifica in 1769, but this city was not incorporated until 1957, making it one of San Mateo County’s youngest cities. Ranch-style houses built from the 1950s to 1970s line streets that are set in a grid pattern, and fetch between $1 million and $1.8 million. Manufactured homes built in the same period range in value from $65,000 to $90,000. Properties built close to the ocean tend to be pricier and have smaller lot sizes, while those built farther inland may sit along hillsides and feature large yards and driveways. Palmetto Avenue, the neighborhood’s commercial thoroughfare, includes bike lanes for those who wish to ride near the breezy shore.Learning at a distinguished high school
Local education options include Sunset Ridge Elementary School, given a C-plus by Niche, as well as the A-minus-rated Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School. Oceana High School, which scores a B-plus, was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the highest-ranking school in the district in 2023 and was awarded the title of “California Distinguished School” by the state board of education. Oceana offers a half-dozen Advanced Placement courses and has the highest standardized test results of any school in San Mateo County’s Jefferson Union High School District.Traveling along the California coast on the Cabrillo Highway
The Cabrillo Highway, which runs along the Pacific Coast for 656 miles, runs through the heart of Pacifica. This road and nearby Skyline Boulevard offer a 15-mile drive into San Francisco and beyond. Local SamTrans buses connect Sharp Park with the Daly City BART station for access to downtown San Francisco within an hour. The nearest hospital, the Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco Medical Center, is a 7-mile drive to the east.
