Ironwood Country Club
Varied home styles and HOA maintenance
Buyers can find three general categories of homes in the community — condos, freestanding houses that are classified as condos and custom homes. Most condos were built in the 1970s or ‘80s, and they have neutral-toned stucco exteriors and terra-cotta roof tiles. They generally list between $500,000 and just under $1 million. With freestanding homes listed as condos, the owner maintains the interior, and the HOA covers exterior maintenance and landscaping. These tend to fall between $1 million and $1.8 million.A few estate homes were built in the mid-1900s, but many were added after 2000. Their custom designs reflect Pueblo Revival, Mediterranean, or modern design influences. Estate owners are responsible for interior and exterior upkeep, and the homes often cost between $2 million and $8 million. HOA fees are about $250 to $1,200 per month. The community has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, compared to 4 nationally.
Country club amenities and nearby recreation
Residents have the option to join the Ironwood Country Club, which entails paying an initiation fee and monthly dues. Social membership provides access to the fitness center, pickleball courts and the many gatherings. With a golf membership, full use of the two 18-hole golf courses, driving ranges and practice areas is added. “You don’t have to join the club, though. It’s kind of unique in that way,” Williams says. Just north of the community is The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, a 1,200-acre park with replicas of deserts habitats from around the globe, as well as some of the animal species that inhabit them. "It's always kind of weird to be driving down the street and see giraffes," Williams says. Ironwood Park is also nearby, and it has walking trails and a shaded playground. Some people enjoy hiking around the nearby mountains or up to the cross just west of state Route 74, Williams says. “From the top, you have an incredible view of all the clubs.” Plays and performances take place at the McCallum Theatre, about 4 miles north. Past entertainers have included cellist, Yo-Yo Ma, and Broadway performer, Leslie Odom, Jr.Close to El Paseo and other shopping
One block south of state Route 111 is El Paseo, where people can shop from luxury brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton or grab a bite to eat. “There is an endless number of great restaurants,” Williams says. “Jillian’s is the best, but it’s very hard to get in. Ristorante Mamma Gina has a happy hour every day, and people are lined up right at 4.” The Shops at Palm Desert, a two-story indoor mall anchored by Macy’s, is just north of state Route 111. Albertsons, Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe’s are all within a 5-mile radius of most homes.Seasonal activities and events in the Coachella Valley
Between November and Memorial Day, the Coachella Valley has “nonstop events, parties and dinners,” Williams says. “It can be a very active lifestyle if you want it to be, or it can be very mellow.” Fashion Week El Paseo and the Palm Desert Food & Wine festival both take place in March. Indian Wells hosts the annual BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament, and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival brings a swarm of people to the valley each April. Though many festivalgoers camp on site at the Empire Polo Club, others stay at hotels in and around Palm Desert. “By Memorial Day, people are usually out of here until November. In September and October, it’s dusty and courses are closed, but in November, it’s full steam ahead,” Williams says.School options for Ironwood Country Club residents
Most of Ironwood Country Club is zoned for B-minus-rated Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, and students have preference if they decide to apply for the A-minus-rated George Washington Charter School. Some homes at the southern end of Canyon View Drive fall under Gerald Ford Elementary School’s boundary. Ford Elementary also gets an A-minus. Students can then transition to La Quinta Middle School, which holds a B rating, or they can apply to the A-minus-rated Palm Desert Charter Middle School. Palm Desert High School gets an A. It offers a variety of extracurricular clubs, including Academic Decathlon, botball and drama.Car travel to nearby highways and services
Residents depend on cars for travel. Portola Avenue runs past the community’s gated entrances, providing a route to state Route 111. Interstate 10 is about 7 miles north, and the Palm Springs International Airport is less than 15 miles northwest. The Eisenhower Health Main Campus, around 7 miles away, is home to the Tennity Emergency Department and the Betty Ford Center.Dry season brings some environmental concerns
The region is prone to some environmental concerns, including poor air quality and wildfires. The risks tend to increase during the hot, dry summer and early fall months.
