Residents can hike or go horseback riding along the 4.7-mile Murray Canyon Trail and spot endangered wildlife, or go bird watching at the more tranquil, mile-long Andreas Canyon Trail. Just north of the area, the 36-hole Indian Canyons Golf Resort is open to the public. Adjacent to the course, Smoke Tree Stables offers equestrian tours of the canyon trails.

Coachella, or the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, takes place in April at Indio, about 20 miles away.
