Residents can hike or go horseback riding along the 4.7-mile Murray Canyon Trail and spot endangered wildlife, or go bird watching at the more tranquil, mile-long Andreas Canyon Trail. Just north of the area, the 36-hole Indian Canyons Golf Resort is open to the public. Adjacent to the course, Smoke Tree Stables offers equestrian tours of the canyon trails.

Modernism Week, one of the most iconic international architecture festivals, kicks off in February with 11 days of architectural tours and events centered around midcentury and modern design. Coachella, or the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, takes place in April at Indio, about 20 miles away.
