Melody Ranch is comprised of four communities, including the five-star hotel Parker Palm Springs, which was formerly California’s first Holiday Inn. The gated Seven Lakes Golf & Country Club features 1960s and 1970s midcentury modern homes centered around an 18-hole golf course, with pools and recreation venues scattered throughout. “It’s a wonderful country club community with single-family condos,” Lavin says. “But the HOA is very, very high, which can be prohibitive for some homeowners.” The Oasis Resort has Spanish-style condominiums, while Canyon Sands has residences spread across 33-acres of land. Both associations also have amenities such as swimming pools and tennis or pickleball courts. Homes in Seven Lakes usually start at around $550,000, and those with panoramic views of the golf course or recently remodeled units can top at $1.6 million. Residences in other communities are typically between $350,000 and $550,000. Homeowners may be cautioned that extreme heat in the area can cause property damage, such as foundation cracks or premature material aging. Meticulous maintenance may be needed, and home insurance is advised.

Recreational venues and public parks in Palm Springs
Open to both private members and the public, the 18-hole course at Seven Lakes is a big draw to golf enthusiasts. Sitting north of the community, the 61-acre Demuth Park features baseball diamonds, soccer fields, 12 pickleball courts, and tons of green space for walks. Also home to the park, the Demuth Park Community Center has a gym, a basketball court and recreational classes such as dance and yoga. Across the street is The Palm Springs Surf Club, featuring a waterpark and a surfing pool. “The surf club with the man-manmade surf pool is the newest addition to the area’s recreational scene,” Lavin says. “It’s a huge investment, but it’s really cool, and people spend a lot of time there in the summer.” The Araby Trailhead is located on the neighborhood’s southwest corner, and the 3-mile-long hiking trail offers spectacular views of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains.

Palm Springs Unified School District has a high-mark high school
Students may attend Cahuilla Elementary School, which rates a B-minus from Niche. Raymond Cree Middle School has a B while offers a dual-language curriculum. Palm Springs High School has an A-minus and offers learning pathways in film, theater, music and medicine. The K-8 Cielo Vista Charter School is just north of the neighborhood, and the K-12 Desert Chapel Christian School is also near the area. Each school rates a B and an A-minus, respectively.

Signature events in Palm Springs and Coachella Valley draw crowds
The city is renowned for its myriad iconic cultural events that draw spectators from all over the world. Known for having a big LGBTQ community, Palm Springs celebrates its pride spirit with the festival Palm Springs Pride, featuring a big parade and inclusivity parties. The Palm Springs International Film Festival attracts many film enthusiasts with premier screenings and talks with filmmakers and industry professionals. VillageFest is a weekly street festival in downtown featuring food and craft booths with local vendors. Coachella, one of the most anticipated music festivals in the world, takes place in Indio, Coachella Valley, which is about 20 miles east of Palm Springs.

Navigating to San Bernardino and Los Angeles
The area is bordered by California State Route 111 and Palm Canyon Drive, a major thoroughfare. Residents can take Interstate 10, about 6 miles east, to access San Bernardino and Los Angeles, which are about 60 and 113 miles west, respectively. Palm Springs International Airport is a mere 3 miles away, servicing approximately 13 airlines and offering about 30 nonstop flights to cities around the world. Although not often utilized by locals, public bus services are provided by SunLine Transit Agency. In addition, there is a rail station at Palm Springs Amtrak Station for connection to San Bernardino. Bordered by Palm Canyon Drive, the area’s shops and restaurants are along this main thoroughfare. A couple of streets west, Smoke Tree Commons and Smoke Tree Village are two large shopping plazas, featuring big-box stores such as Michaels and T.J.Maxx, supermarkets and popular eateries. Grocery options include Vons, Ralphs and Jensen's Finest Foods. Sette Food + Drink, the restaurant at Seven Lakes, offers classic American fare. located inside the Parker Palm Springs Hotel, Norma’s serves brunch and comfort eats, while Mister Parker’s is a modern restaurant with New American and French fare. Target and Trader Joe’s are just east of the area. Shoppers can also head about 5 miles west to Downtown Palm Springs, which is dotted with fashionable boutiques, art galleries and established restaurants such as Farm, a farm-to-table eatery with a trendy setting.
