Leisurely living in Sonora Sunrise

Located a mere 2 miles south of downtown, Sonora Sunrise is a residential enclave bordered by Prescott Preserve and Palm Canyon Drive. Popular with year-round and seasonal residents, the area is well-organized and has a mix of HOA communities and single-family homes. Surrounded by scenic walking trails and outdoor spaces, residents have abundant recreation opportunities and ways to lead an active lifestyle. In addition, the city’s iconic cultural festivals and the distinguishing boutiques, galleries and establishments in downtown have become a draw for younger families and the cosmopolitan crowd. “Palm Springs is part of a chain of cities around the Coachella Valley region, and they all blend into one another,” says Peter Lavin, a Realtor at Links Real Estate with 23 years of experience. “Palm Springs tends to be a bit hipper and trendier; there’s more nightlife and things to do, so it attracts the younger generations.”

Single-family homes and HOA communities in Sonora Sunrise

Single-family residences were mostly built in the 1960s and 1970s, and many come in midcentury modern ranch styles with low-slung roofs or Spanish influences. With no HOA fees, these homes usually sell between $900,000 and $1.3 million. Backyard pools are very common, and yard sizes are usually about a quarter-acre. Attached and detached condominiums usually have monthly HOA fees, and these typically list from $400,000 to over $800,000. Many of these subdivisions have private recreation facilities, including community pools, clubhouses and tennis or pickleball courts. The area has very hot summers with temperatures often surpassing 110 °F, and properties often require more care and maintenance as extreme heat may cause damages like foundation cracks and premature material aging.

Locals can walk their dogs or ride their bikes on the multi-use pathways and take in the beauty of the natural scenery. The community is also adjacent to DeMuth Park, the city’s largest public park, with 61 acres of green space. The park offers baseball and soccer fields, pickleball courts and playgrounds. The city’s recreation center, also located on the park’s ground, has a fitness center and offers many recreational classes to residents. Notably, the Palm Springs Surf Club has become an increasingly popular destination for summer residents, featuring a waterpark and a surfing pool. “There’s also the Aerial Tramway,” Lavin says. “It literally transports you from desert climate to mountain pine climate. In the summer, many people take the tram up to play cards and hide from the heat. It’s much cooler up there.”
