Greenmeadow is the realized dream of famed real estate developer Joseph Eichler. The tight-knit suburban neighborhood near downtown Palo Alto comprises iconic Eichler-designed houses from the mid-20th century. While the houses certainly draw people in, the sense of community encourages them to stay. “Greenmeadow is special because it really is a true community,” says Timothy Foy, resident and Broker and Owner of Midtown Realty Inc. “If you want to find a community in Palo Alto, this is the best way.” Greenmeadow residents also have access to highly-rated public schools and the vibrant city centers of the Bay Area.

Distinct California homes
Greenmeadow’s housing captures a distinct moment in the Californian architectural movement. The neighborhood is composed entirely of single-story, single-family units designed by real estate developer Joseph Eichler. These units, or “Eichlers” as they have come to be known, incorporate midcentury-modern design elements like open floor plans and floor-to-ceiling glass windows with an appreciation for nature. Indoor-outdoor living is a priority, reflected in the homes’ outdoor atriums and numerous skylights. Although “Eichlers” were intended for mass production, variations in exteriors and layouts kept them from looking identical. The neighborhood was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 28th, 2005. Prices range from $3 million to $5 million, depending on square footage and renovations. In response to some concerns regarding the distinct designs of Eichler houses, Foy had one response. “I always say there are two kinds of people, those who love Eichlers and those who are going to love Eichlers.”
