Suburban living in Westmoreland County

Situated on the western edge of Westmoreland County just outside the Pittsburgh city limits, Penn Township offers a quiet suburb with rolling terrain, a place where nature provides the bucolic backdrop for a wide variety of homes, high-quality schools, and surprisingly close dining and grocery amenities. “It’s really got a country feel but it’s only 40 minutes to downtown Pittsburgh,” says local Realtor Danette Westervelt of RE/MAX Heritage. The township is part of the award-winning Penn-Trafford School District, which Niche ranks as the second-best school district in Westmoreland County.

Municipal Park Complex, Bushy Run Battlefield and nearby golf courses

The Penn Township Municipal Park Complex serves as a recreation hub in the center of town. It features various athletic facilities, walking paths, a playground and a small fishing pond stocked with trout. Next to the park is the Penn Area Library, which offers educational and recreational programs for all ages. Visitors can learn more about the war through the museum and visitor’s center, guided battlefield tours and events like the seasonal Bushy Run Market. Golfers can play a round at the Irwin Country Club and Manor Valley Golf Course, both of which offer public 18-hole courses. At the private Westmoreland Country Club, members have access to an 18-hole golf course, an outdoor pool and a racquet sports complex.
