In the upper north side of Contra Costa County, residents of Meadowbrook enjoy the scenic backdrop of Mount Diablo in a quiet slice of suburbia.

You'll find this community right off California State Route 4, making for easy commutes to Concord, Oakland, or any other major cities due east or west. This a car-dependent area, but it's also served by Bay Area Rapid Transit with several bus stops lying on main roads, such as Harbor St and Buchanan Rd.

Meadowbrook's flat landscape and plethora of single-story homes allow the ridges of distant mountains to shape the horizon. Lining the streets are different subdivisions, such as Brookside Glen. Most of these properties were originally built throughout the 1960s, '70s and '80s, as well as during a short-lived building cycle that kicked off in the early 2000s. The simple and classic designs of Minimal Traditional architecture and the earthy, elegant features of Spanish eclectic architecture blend together to give the neighborhood a grounded aesthetic. Still, no two homes are precisely the same. Some more contemporary-inspired split-level properties can be found as well. Common features include driveways and two-car garages, but the roads are wide enough for ample street parking as well. Listing prices range between $357,000 and $696,000. Homeowners interested in living in a 55-plus community can also check out Delta Hawaii, a close-knit manufactured-home community on the north side of the area.

Meadowbrook students have the advantage of being less than 5 miles from several Pittsburg Unified School District schools, so depending on their address, students can find themselves starting school at Foothill Elementary or Highlands Elementary, both right in the neighborhood and rated with C-pluses on Niche. Also rated with a C-plus on Niche is Hillview Junior High. Pittsburg High, boasting a B-rating on Niche, is the farthest zone school from Meadowbrook, only a couple miles up the road, making for an easy 10-minute drive. Students at this high school have access to a variety of sports, from baseball and softball in the spring to soccer, basketball, wrestling, tennis, football, water polo and more throughout autumn and winter. Go Pirates!

As for day-to-day shopping and running errands, Meadowbrook is conveniently situated, close to grocery stores like Cardenas, supermarkets like Walmart, fast-food options, places to work off said fast food and even the Pittsburg DMV. A popular spot for grabbing a bite to eat on this side of town is Lady J's Soul Food, which has a rotating menu of delectable soulful entrees, from fried and smothered pork chops to baked spaghetti. And don't worry, collard greens, yams and mac n' cheese are always on the menu.

Buchanan Park is a community green space, perfect for breaking a sweat or just getting a breath of fresh air. Its shaded picnic areas and barbecue pits make for great gathering spots, and in the summertime, local kids flock to the park's pool and playground. Local runners, bikers and horseback riders take advantage of the Delta de Anza Trail, a paved 15-mile path that winds through the neighborhood's center, commemorating the route traveled by Juan Bautista de Anza, an 18th-century Spanish explorer. Once completed, this trail will stretch 25 miles, providing an alternative means of accessing central and eastern Contra Costa County's cities — Concord, Bay Point, Pittsburg, Antioch and Oakley — and their respective parks.

Life in Meadowbrook is convenient. It's a neighborhood that has everything you need, with the bonus of gorgeous mountain views.
