Some sit at the hilltops, connected to the street by long staircases, while others settle in the foothills, often facing the steep incline. Price points in Crafton Heights are slightly lower than in Crafton proper, falling at an average of around $150,000.
The West End Overlook Park is among the most popular outdoor spaces in the city, and Crafton Heights homeowners can head there on foot. It’s known for its views of the Ohio River and the city skyline. The grassy grounds fill up for seasonal celebrations like the fireworks show on the 4th of July when the sky lights up above the buildings on the horizon. Locals visit the smaller West End Park, a hilly natural pocket under an oak canopy, to walk the dog around the pond and to take the kids to the playground.
Many of the West Side’s best local restaurants are in town and walkable for Crafton Heights homeowners. The family-owned Better-Maid Donut Co. and NakaEndZone BBQ are the neighborhood's takeout go-to's, and Obey House Tavern is busy on Taco Tuesdays when locals visit for dinner deals and karaoke. The Crafton Ingram Shopping Center is also off the main road, where locals shop for groceries at Giant Eagle Supermarket and tackle other errands at pharmacies, banks and home improvement stores.
Crafton Heights falls under the academic umbrella of the Carlynton School District. Kids can attend Pittsburgh Langley K - 8, rated C-minus on Niche, and continue to Pittsburgh Brashear High, rated C-plus, to earn their diplomas. Pittsburgh Brashear High offers a computer science magnet program in which students take a deep dive into programming. Pittsburgh Classical Academy is also in town, offering a public magnet program for students in 6th through 8th grade. Pittsburgh Classical carries an overall C rating on Niche.
Crafton Heights locals navigate Pittsburgh’s City Steps as they move around the neighborhood. “Bridge access gives Crafton locals unique access to downtown,” Leitera says. These locals live less than 5 miles from Downtown Pittsburgh, a draw for many buyers who make a daily commute into the city. Steuben Street connects directly to the highway and the bridge connecting the west end to the busy business district. The Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) West Busway line makes stops on major connecting streets throughout the neighborhood for those who prefer a car-free ride around town.
