Quiet nature and active community in outside of Salisbury
Pittsville’s rural nature and open space make provide a quiet life outside of Salisbury for its just over 1,500 residents. “Pittsville has a close-knit community that looks after each other,” says Greg Johnson, a Realtor with ERA Martin Associates. “Just great folks. They have an active Volunteer Fire Department.” That fire department hosts an annual fall festival and often serves as a community meeting space. Pittsville also has its own park, library and a combination elementary and middle school. Other amenities may require a drive to a larger town. "Salisbury and Ocean City have active downtowns, playgrounds, and special events,” Johnson says. “Always something going on.”
Older homes and new construction on nearly half an acre in Pittsville
Housing styles in Pittsville vary from 1920s farmhouses to modern Craftsman-style homes built as recently as 2024. There are manufactured homes in Strawberry Village Subdivision. Single-family homes range from $105,000 to $705,000, and the median lot size is just under half an acre. Homes are typically spread out and set back from major roads, or they're tucked away in cul-de-sacs. Property taxes are lower in Wicomico County compared to other parts of the state. As recently as 2025, some residents experienced issues regarding the odor of their tap water. The town is currently upgrading its water treatment plant.
Wicomico County Public Schools with career and technical education
Pittsville is part of Wicomico County Public Schools, which earns a B grade on Niche. Students can attend Pittsville Elementary & Middle School for kindergarten through Grade 8, and then Parkside High in Salisbury, which all receive a B rating. The high school has a variety of Career and Technical Education programs, including automotive repair and early childhood education.
Upgrades and annual events at Pittsville Park
Pittsville Park recently underwent renovations, including a more inclusive playground, and may receive more upgrades in the future. The park hosts events like the annual Pittsville Strawberry Festival, the community Easter egg hunt and Pittsville Night Out, which ends with a fireworks display. In 2023, Pipeline Soccer Club opened a facility in Pittsville to give more opportunities to players ages 4 through 18. Nearby, Pemberton Historical Park is an over 260-acre conservation area in Salisbury, and Ocean City has beaches to explore.
Local restaurants and shopping in Salisbury and Ocean City
JT’s Market is a small convenience store serving breakfast and lunch. Valor House Restaurant has rotating specials and, sometimes, live music. Plaza Tapatia is an authentic Mexican eatery with multiple locations throughout Maryland and Delaware. The town also has a Dollar General and a pharmacy. “While there are a few options in Pittsville, most of the big retail and local/chain restaurants are in Salisbury and Ocean City,” Johnson says. The Centre at Salisbury Mall is around 11 miles away. It’s the largest mall on the Eastern Shore and includes a movie theater and Chuck E. Cheese in addition to shops and restaurants. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury is home to the Delmarva Shorebirds, a Carolina League affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
U.S. Route 50 and navigating the Delmarva area by bus
U.S. Route 50, the main highway that runs across the eastern shore, is just south of Pittsville. It intersects with U.S. Route 13 and serves as a crossroads for the Delmarva area. Taking it west about 12 miles leads to Salisbury. To the east, Ocean City is about 20 miles away. The drive to Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport takes around 10 miles. “Salisbury has an active airport with just announced flights direct to Orlando,” Johnson says. TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury is the closest hospital. Shore Transit offers limited bus service to Pittsville and serves Somerset, Wicomico & Worcester Counties.
