Preston offers rural atmosphere between Easton and Salisbury
Buyers can find modest single-family homes and farmettes among Preston’s small-town streets and outlying cornfields. “Farming is big still; we have a lot of old farms still operating to this day,” says Mary Mabry, an Eastern Shore native and 23-year real estate agent with Keller Williams Select Realtors of Annapolis. “We went through that time 15 years ago when the older generation was passing away, but the younger generation is getting into the business of agriculture to keep the tradition alive.” Larger cities, such as Easton, Salisbury, and Seaford, are less than an hour away for commutes or shopping trips. The town is also a tight-knit community with annual events that bring neighbors together.

Preston Lions Club Park features a baseball diamond, and James T. Wright Memorial Park has an open grass field and a picnic pavilion. It is often the site for community events, such as Hallowdaze. Hallowdaze and the long-running Preston Carnival
Locals come together at various community events throughout the year. Hallowdaze is a fall festival featuring a vendor market and a Halloween costume contest for kids. The Preston Carnival is a fair that has taken place every spring since 1950, with proceeds benefiting the Preston Lions Club and the Preston Volunteer Fire Department. Visitors can enjoy carnival rides, sample food from various vendors and play games like bingo to win prizes.
Local farms nearby, and Easton for shopping options
Locals often support small farm businesses like Heritage Orchard, a family-run peach farm, and Frase’s Meat Shop, a nearby butcher. Preston Roadhouse is a popular restaurant in town, offering a rotating menu of seafood, sandwiches and salads. Easton is a twenty-minute drive west and features several retail centers, including the Shoppes at Easton, which offers a Walmart, Giant, and Aldi for groceries. Seaford is located east of Preston in Delaware and can be a popular shopping hub, as the neighboring state has no sales taxes at either the state or local level.

Many folks commute to Salisbury, Easton or Delaware
Due to the lack of public transportation in Preston, residents are reliant on car travel to get around. Easton is 11 miles west and is home to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. Preston is close enough to the Delaware border that residents can reach cities like Seaford, 20 miles away. Salisbury is 36 miles south and is home to Salisbury Regional Airport, a major travel hub on the Eastern Shore. “Your primary source of income on the Eastern Shore is the poultry industry,” says Mabry. “We've got Perdue and Amick in Hurlock, Mountaire in Delaware, or Amazon centers in Seaford for warehouse work.”
