Raleigh’s Brookhaven has a relaxed vibe close to shopping and dining
Although just off major roads like Glenwood Avenue and Creedmoor Road, Brookhaven has a relaxed, calm feel in Northwest Raleigh. The area’s well-built homes and welcoming community are selling points in the neighborhood, which has many long-term residents. Mid-century homes on spacious lots
Most of Brookhaven’s homes were built in the mid-to-late 1900s, with the oldest homes dating to the 1950s. Many of the homes here are ranch-style, Colonial Revivals and midcentury moderns on leafy lots that are at least half an acre. “It’s a bit different than when you move into a newer neighborhood, and you don’t have all of the lovely growth of the trees,” says Emily Aldrich Barbour, Realtor with Hodge & Kittrell Sotheby's International Realty and longtime neighborhood resident. Pockets of the community were built more recently and have contemporary and some custom-built modern-style homes. Homes typically range from the lower $500,000s to just over $1 million. The neighborhood has a median home sale price in the lower $700,000s. That’s higher than Raleigh's overall median sale price, which is in the mid-$400,000s. It’s also higher than some neighboring communities, such as Stonehenge and Greystone, where the median is in the $500,000s.
Apartment complexes, such as The Tribute and The Timbers, are also on the edges of the community.

Students at Jeffreys Grove Magnet Elementary can apply to the school’s Spanish immersion program.

Glenwood Avenue and Creedmore Road are shopping and dining hubs
Brookhaven is immediately surrounded by many shopping and dining options. “The location is great to Crabtree Valley Mall and getting downtown,” says Jackie Force, Realtor and broker at Real Broker, LLC. The mall is just south off Glenwood Avenue, which also leads to downtown in about 15 minutes. Glenwood Avenue also connects northwest to the Research Park area, home to many employers in the science and tech industries.
Just east, Creedmoor Road also has many options within a few miles, including Aldi, Trader Joe’s and restaurants like Margaux’s. “Margaux’s Restaurant has been there for 20 years. It’s entry-level fine dining, with white tablecloths. It's a date night place,” Force says.

The neighborhood has long-term residents and a sense of community
Barber emphasizes how people who move to the neighborhood tend to stay. “Three of my neighbors are original owners from 1958 and 1959,” she says. “Kids will grow up here, move away, and then move back when their parents pass away.” The neighborhood has worked to maintain the area’s quiet, residential feel. For instance, community members petitioned past efforts to rezone lots along Glenwood Avenue in Brookhaven for commercial use.
