Brookhaven
Neighborhood in Raleigh, North Carolina
Wake County 27612
A variety of home styles and prices
Brookhaven was first established in the late 1950s after World War II, but there are some options for newer houses, with some currently under construction. “It’s a bit different than when you move into a newer neighborhood, and you don’t have all of the lovely growth of the trees,” Barbour says. Traditional, ranch-style and split-level properties are common styles that typically sit on lots of half of an acre or larger. “There’s a collection of about eight to a dozen midcentury modern homes that are really gorgeous and have wonderful views of the woods,” Barbour says. Prices range from $515,000 to $1,485,000, depending on square footage and age of the home. Barbour recently sold a house in Brookhaven that was on the market for four days.Green spaces for walking and watching wildlife
Brookhaven Nature Park is a 26-acre green space with an observation deck above its pond for spotting wildlife. The pavilions in the picnic area provide a shady place to sit, and there are about 2 miles of walking trails that loop together. With the hills of North Raleigh, the trails can provide quite a hike. Wooten Meadow Park is another option for walking in Brookhaven. The neighborhood is under 2 miles from Lake Lynn and Shelley Lake Parks, the latter offering docks and a pedestrian bridge for fishing. It’s home to the Sertoma Arts Center, basketball courts and playgrounds. The neighborhood doesn’t have a homeowners association, but they do have a book club and a garden club.Learning with Wake County Public Schools
Jeffreys Grove Magnet Elementary in the northern region of the neighborhood earns an A grade from Niche. Other addresses are zoned for A-minus-rated York Elementary. “They’re both right in the neighborhood, so kids can walk to school,” Barbour says. Oberlin Magnet Middle also receives an A-minus, while Sanderson High has a B-plus rating. Students at the high school can apply to the Academy of Finance, a four-year program that teaches courses on financial planning, business, entrepreneurship and economics. The Wake County Public School System has other early college and magnet schools that students can apply to based on their address.A location near the inner and outer beltline
Brookhaven is between U.S. Route 50 to the east, which runs from the coast to the Triangle, and U.S. Route 70 to the west from the Tennesse border to the Atlantic Ocean. Both routes connect to Interstate 440, also known as the inner beltline, to the south and Interstate 540, the outer beltline, to the north. The around 10-mile drive to the Raleigh-Durham International Airport will take around 17 minutes in usual traffic. It takes about the same time and mileage to reach downtown Raleigh in the opposite direction. There are two hospital options under 6 miles from the neighborhood: UNC REX Hospital and Duke Raleigh Hospital. Brookhaven has a CAP Index crime score of 4 out of 10, on par with the national average of 4.Shopping and dining along Glenwood Avenue
Some Brookhaven homes are within walking distance of Crabtree Valley Mall, the largest indoor mall in the Triangle, which has around 200 stores and restaurants. Pleasant Valley Promenade is a shopping center on U.S. Route 70, also known as Glenwood Avenue, with large retailers, including Marshalls and Ross. There’s a Walmart in the Townridge plaza. Restaurants along Glenwood Avenue range from fast food chains to upscale dining at long-standing establishments like The Peddler Steak House and Casa Carbone Ristorante Italiano — which has been open since 1984.
