Brookhaven's convenient location keeps residents in the neighborhood
In northwest Raleigh, Brookhaven is a few miles from shopping centers and highway access points but feels more private and tucked away under dense foliage. Emily Aldrich Barbour is a Realtor with Hodge & Kittrell Sotheby's International Realty who has lived in the neighborhood for 21 years. She says once people buy into Brookhaven, they tend to stay. “Three of my neighbors are original owners from 1958 and 1959,” she says. “Kids will grow up here, move away, and then move back when their parents pass away.” According to Barbour, well-built, unique homes on larger wooded lots are a big selling point in addition to the neighborhood’s welcoming community.

A variety of home styles and prices
Brookhaven was first established in the late 1950s after World War II, but there are some options for newer houses, with some currently under construction. “It’s a bit different than when you move into a newer neighborhood, and you don’t have all of the lovely growth of the trees,” Barbour says. Traditional, ranch-style and split-level properties are common styles that typically sit on lots of half of an acre or larger. “There’s a collection of about eight to a dozen midcentury modern homes that are really gorgeous and have wonderful views of the woods,” Barbour says. Prices range from $515,000 to $1,485,000, depending on square footage and age of the home. Barbour recently sold a house in Brookhaven that was on the market for four days.

Students at the high school can apply to the Academy of Finance, a four-year program that teaches courses on financial planning, business, entrepreneurship and economics.
