Red Bud blends historic charm with commuter convenience
Named for the crimson trees that line its streets, Red Bud is a city of 3,800. Commuters value the area for its convenient location, less than 40 miles southeast of Saint Louis . "People consider it a bedroom community," says Nona Shaw, a Realtor with Tri County Realty. Settled in the early 19th century, the city wears its history on its sleeve thanks to regular renovations. "They have a real antique-y look," says Shaw. "There are a lot of older brick buildings that are maintained and still used." In addition to its old-fashioned look, Red Bud boasts lower-than-average crime rates. Its CAP Crime Index Score is a 2 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4. These factors, combined with community events and a thriving restaurant scene, are often cited as the reason behind Red Bud's steady growth.
