Why buyers seek out Palo Cedro’s convenient country setting

Palo Cedro is a sought-after rural community outside Redding. It's only 10 miles east of downtown, but has its own town center with a supermarket, restaurants and highly rated schools. Multiacre properties can be found throughout the region, but in Palo Cedro, residents can enjoy countryside privacy just a few minutes away from essentials in town.

Spacious countryside properties near Redding

Palo Cedro's popularity stems from its mix of rural setting and small-town suburban feel. "Palo Cedro is the peak of country living around Redding," says Realtor Justin Cartwright, leader of the JCRE Team with Waterman Real Estate and a third-generation Shasta County resident. "It has all the essentials. You really don't need to leave your little bubble, but it's only 10 minutes from Redding." Life revolves around the small town center, with suburban homes in town and spacious countryside properties just outside. Most of the ranch-style and farmhouse-inspired suburban homes around town still sit on a half-acre or more, and range from the high $100,000s to the high $500,000s. The community likes to maintain an old-fashioned feel, so new construction is rare. For acreage outside of town, you can find small ranch-style homes and larger farmhouses, typically on 2 to 5 acres, ranging from the high $300,000s to mid $700,000s.

Small-town feel and shopping options in Palo Cedro

Despite being near Redding, Palo Cedro has its own community life. "They take pride in that small-town, 'say hi to your neighbors in the grocery store' kind of place," Cartwright says. The local schools, parks, stores, restaurants and community buildings all sit along Deschutes Road. The Palo Cedro Shopping Center anchors the main drag. It has a Holiday Market, a hardware store and other small shops. Turn south to find the Palo Cedro Inn and a few other eateries. In the opposite direction, there are strip mall cafes, bars and restaurants like The Porch and Red Rock Bar & Grill.

Students attend highly rated schools in town

Palo Cedro's top-rated schools are in the center of the community. Education begins at the shared Junction Elementary School District campus, home to the highly rated Junction Elementary and Middle Schools. Foothill High School, part of the well-regarded Shasta Union High School District, is a short drive up the road.

An equestrian-friendly area with access to local parks

This is a popular equestrian area. Palo Cedro Park and Grape Ranch Golf Club offer additional recreation. Redding has more dedicated space for outdoor activities like:

  • Kayaking on the Sacramento River
  • Cycling the Sacramento River Trail
  • Walking the trails through Turtle Bay Open Space and across the Sundial Bridge

Commuting to Redding is easy

Commuters have an easy drive into downtown Redding on state Route 44, 10 miles west. Route 44 merges with Interstate 5, which leads to Sacramento, the nearest large city, 160 miles south. Redding Regional Airport is less than 10 miles away.
