Attractive Redding suburb of upscale homes between a park and preserve
"Saratoga's known as a really nice neighborhood," says Tammy Krumvieda, owner/broker with Mistletoe Realty, who's been selling in the area since 1996. "You have large, well-maintained lots with native oaks and pines, and custom-builds that go from around a half-million on up to a million." Several subdivisions comprise Saratoga, including Western Oaks to the north and La Rinconada Estates to the south. It's one of the last few built-out residential communities before the terrain becomes agricultural all around the Redding Regional Airport. Yet it's far enough northwest of the flight pattern that airplane noise isn't an issue.
Saratoga has many mature trees.

Sprawling ranchers and upscale two-stories up to $1 million
Unlike in some other small communities surrounding Saratoga, most of the homes here are on large enough lots to include backyard entertaining areas with high-end, in-ground pools. Long, winding streets stretch between Alta Mesa Drive on the west and Shasta View Drive on the east — which connects to Highway 44 just a mile or two north of Saratoga. "They're all grand homes on half-acre lots or bigger," says Krumvieda. "You'll see a lot of stylish stucco, tile roofs and beautiful landscaping. There's no HOA, but they're all just so well kept." The community's main Saratoga Drive leads out of the neighborhood onto Rancho Road to the south, but it originates within the neighborhood, eliminating any through traffic from neighborhoods to the north. Nearly all of the roadways branching off Saratoga end in quiet cul-de-sacs. Neighbors stroll sidewalks on both sides of the streets, past yards flush with established trees that add seasonal color. Homes have distinctive architectural features such as decorative stonework, double wood entry doors and arched windows. Ranch-style houses custom-built in the 1960s and 1970s in the southwest corner of Saratoga ask from $475,000 to $550,000. Homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s range from $815,000 for stucco two-stories to $1 million for sprawling ranch styles, some with three-car garages or detached guest houses.
Two story homes can also be found in Saratoga.
Saratoga has many larger homes also.

Neighborhood park, Clover Creek Preserve trails, and Kids' Kingdom
Western Oaks Park is in the community's north end, and neighbors walk and bike there to play basketball, walk dogs on the lawn, meet for playdates or relax on benches in the shade. From the north end of Saratoga, it's only a mile-and-a-half bike ride to the 128-acre Clover Creek Preserve, which offers a paved loop around a retention pond and scenic natural trails in the surrounding undeveloped flatland. Families with kids head a mile west to play at Kids' Kingdom in the 90-acre Enterprise Park. In addition to this popular water park and playground, Enterprise has a soccer field, disc golf course and new pickleball courts.
B-grade public schools
Public school kids attend Prairie Elementary, given a Niche B grade, from kindergarten through third grade. Fourth through eighth graders attend Pacheco School, which gets a B-minus. Older students advance to Anderson Union High School, which earns a B, about 8 miles south of the neighborhood. Students can also apply to attend the charter California Heritage Youthbuild Academy 2 miles east of Saratoga, which offers academic and career training for students ages 16 to 24 and an Adult Education program for students 25 and over.
Accessible eateries and grocery shopping
Just 2 miles southeast of the heart of Saratoga, dining and shopping options are easy to reach in a commercial stretch of Churn Creek Road. SaveMart grocery store shares its plaza with Starbucks and In-N-Out Burger. Just around the corner from the plaza, Taqueria Los Gordos is a low-key spot for burritos, tacos, quesadillas and make-your-own family packages. Grocery runs are a cinch at Holiday Market, just 2 miles north of central Saratoga, on Hartnell Avenue. Mt. Shasta Mall, the largest shopping center in the city, is 5 miles north and has everything else.
Saratoga residents can dine out at Los Gordos.

Close to I-5, Mt. Shasta Mall and Redding Regional Airport
Most residents drive, but there are a few Redding Area Bus Authority bus stops along El Vista Street to the west for transit to Enterprise Park, and on Victor Avenue for transit north to Mount Shasta Mall. Saratoga's Rancho Road southern border connects to Interstate 5 in a mile drive west for commuting throughout Shasta County. The Redding Regional Airport is a 4-mile, 8-minute drive southeast.
High heat and fire risk scores require proper insurance
The community scores a 7 out of 10 for severe fire factor and an 8 out of 10 for severe heat factor. Homebuyers need to obtain proper fire insurance.
Redding Pro-Am and Fourth of July Fireworks
Saratoga is about 3 miles east of the private Riverview Country Club, which hosts the four-day Redding Pro-Am tournament every June. And every Fourth of July, the Freedom Festival at the Redding Civic Auditorium puts on a spectacular fireworks show.
