Accessible central Redding neighborhood offering golf course views
Covering about a mile-wide distance between a private 130-acre golf course and Interstate 5, South Bechelli is a convenient Redding neighborhood for golfers, anglers and anyone wanting quick access to the Sacramento River or eastern Shasta County. Its main Bechelli Lane throughway, dotted with commercial retailers, heads to Mount Shasta Mall in 3.5 miles. There's also a new Costco and a Save Mart in the neighborhood, keeping daily essentials close in this central Redding suburb. "It's a very popular, nice area to live with wonderful western water and golf course views," says Rob Middleton, Realtor/co-owner with House of Realty, who's been selling in the area since 1976.

Country club for golfing, nearby Fly Shop for fishing
Riverview Country Club is the community's central recreation gem, founded in 1947 and enjoyed by generations of South Bechelli families. At this private club, members golf and dine amid views of the Sacramento River and Cascade foothills. “We’re by far the best-conditioned course and nicest facility in the area,” says Courtney Foster, general manager for Riverview Golf and Country Club. “And we just redid our tennis courts, so we now offer pickleball. Outside banquets and weddings are popular here, too, because it’s really the best view in town. When you look out from the clubhouse, the course is surrounded on two and a half sides by water. We tee off way above and drop 100 feet down to the banks of the river. It’s remarkably beautiful.” Local anglers can reach The Fly Shop — famous internationally for fly-fishing training and expeditions — within a half-mile drive east. Neighbors walk over to the 6-acre Rivercrest Park to picnic, shoot hoops or play at the multipart playground bordered by a paved walking loop and stone benches.
Golfers can enjoy views of he Saramento River while playing a round.
If you love fly fishing, you've got to stop by The Fly Shop for supplies.

Midcentury to 2000s homes between the river and the highway
Ranch-style homes prevail in South Bechelli, along with the occasional two-story. Pricing for nicely maintained and updated 1950s and 1960s homes varies from $280,000 to $420,000. Contemporary Spanish-style stucco homes with elegant stonework and backyard pools built in 2008 ask between $580,000 and $620,000. Homes built in the 1970s that back up to the Riverview Country Club can run from $350,000 to $600,000 depending on size and upgrades. "Golf course homes on Cheryl and Golf drives have nice big views of a freshwater fishing pond that's directly fed by the Sacramento River," says Middleton. "So, people tend to buy them and camp there for a long time. They don't turn over very often." Nicely landscaped yards along quiet streets are rich with established tree canopy, and most of Bechelli Lane has sidewalks on both sides for walking or biking to services and retailers. Interior streets branching off Bechelli Lane sometimes offer a sidewalk on one side or are wide enough to share with bikes.

Downtown Redding, just three miles north, has date night options from fine dining to breweries. "Hermit's Hut has been in the neighborhood for over 40 years," adds Middleton. "It's well-known as the place to get outdoor equipment of all kinds. They have everything from snow skiing to tennis to backpacking gear. And right up the road from Hermit's, Don's Sandwich Shop is the local hangout for fresh sandwiches, soups and macaroni salads." For groceries, Costco and Save Mart are a mile south of central South Bechelli.

Every holiday season from November through January, locals visit McConnell Botanical Gardens to marvel at the Redding Garden of Lights' festive animated displays.
