Country feel with city access and award-winning education

The quiet community of Remlap offers rural reprieve outside of Birmingham. The town is close to larger towns and cities, so residents can commute or access amenities without feeling too secluded. Remlap is on a major Alabama state road that leads directly to downtown Birmingham and the Interstates that cluster around and branch out to other cities. "It's considered a very safe area, and there are a lot of commuters who get to leave behind the busy city life," says Realtor Ginger Fountain with Re/Max Realty. "It's also known for having a good school system, and that draws a lot of families. The school Fountain mentions is the Southeastern School, an award-winning pre-K to 12th-grade institution that serves Remlap students and earns good marks from Niche.

Remlap offers rural living with a mix of home prices and styles

Remlap has the classic feel of a rural Alabama Community, surrounded by acres of pine woods and open pasture fields. Some residences here sit on up to 16 acres, offering room for small hobby farms or animals. The community features a variety of home styles for different budgets, starting with manufactured homes that range between $45,000 and $200,000, depending on age. Woodsy ranch-style homes and cottages are priced between $100,000 and $500,000, depending on the acreage and the renovation completed. There are also large farmhouse-style homes on acreage and subdivisions of recently built New Traditional homes from about $325,000 to $595,000. New Traditional houses are often the largest, with houses often between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet. "There's a lot of new construction with newer subdivisions here, but property taxes are really cheap, so it's more affordable than closer to Birmingham," Fountain says.

Local school offers full K-12 education and technical training

Blount County Schools serves Remlap families. Students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade attend Southeastern School, which earns an overall B-plus rating from Niche. At Southeastern School's campus, students may enroll in a business career pathway. They may also enroll in pathways like cosmetology, health science and pre-engineering at Blount County Career Technical Center.

Nature preserves and lakes provide peaceful outdoor escapes

Remlap is close to nature preserves, parks and lakes that showcase the area's beauty. At Inland Lake, the tranquil waters invite visitors to boat and fish, and Cosby Lake Park has fishing spots and benches to enjoy the sunset. Turkey Creek Nature Preserve offers swimming holes, scenic waterfalls and a challenging 3-mile trail. Residents will find classic park amenities like a walking trail and playground at Pinson Bicentennial Park. At Cumberland Lake Golf and Lodge, residents may book a public tee time at the club's woodsy course surrounded by lakes.

Residents travel to Clay and Grayson Valley for shopping

There are limited amenities in Remlap. The downtown area mainly comprises houses of worship, a gas station and a fire station along Alabama 75. First Baptist Church Remlap brings residents together with events like a Fall Party, dinner fundraisers and an easter egg hunt. Nearby Clay, 12 miles away, offers a Dollar General and restaurants like The Barbeque Stop, which offers comforting smoked meats and classic sides. Grayson Valley, 15 miles away, has big box stores like Walmart and Sam's Club, a Regal movie theater and several restaurants. There are chains like Krystal Burger and Chick-fil-A and local spots like Tamburro's Italian Home, which serves classic Italian dishes like spaghetti and lasagna.

Medical care and airport access are within 25 miles

Alabama 75 intersects Remlap, connecting to Birmingham, about 25 miles away. In Birmingham, Interstates 59, 65, 22 and 20 all merge, providing access to surrounding cities. The closest medical center is UAB St. Vincent's Blount, 10 miles away. Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is about 25 miles from Remlap. The community earns a four out of 10 CAP Index Crime Score, the same as the national figure.
