Life in the High Sierra's foothills
Where the desert landscape ends and the High Sierra begins, the Montreux private golfing community provides a scenic abode for Nevada homebuyers. “Montreux is truly unique for northern Nevada,” says Adrian Drakulich, a Realtor with Better Homes and Garden Drakulich Realty who has sold houses in the neighborhood. “Having a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course is unique for our area, as is being in the trees and the Galena Forest.” Montreux residents can enjoy various activities in and around the neighborhood, including golf, hiking and skiing. This community offers a secluded lifestyle in the Sierra Nevada mountains while also putting homeowners within commuting distance of cities like Reno and Carson City, making it a convenient yet serene neighborhood for lovers of the outdoors.
Outdoor fun in the Galena Forest
Montreux centers around one main attraction: the Montreux Golf & Country Club, a par-72 championship course designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. “I think the golf course is a huge draw. Jack Nicklaus said it was one of his top four or five designs the first time he played it,” says Drakulich. “It’s a beautiful course, but on top of that, you have access to trails and forest service land. Just lots to do outdoors.” This scenic course is highlighted by its signature 17th hole, which features a 138-foot drop from the tees to the fairways. The club also includes tennis courts, a fitness center and a swimming pool. Outdoors enthusiasts can visit the vast Galena Creek Regional Park on eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada to explore its hiking, biking and horseback riding trails, which follow creeks and lead to the tops of ridges. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities in the winter. The Galena Creek Visitor Center provides outdoor educational programs and guided hikes for children throughout the year. Residents are also just a 10-mile drive from Mt. Rose, a popular ski resort with the highest base elevation of any ski area at Lake Tahoe.
Montreux boasts some of the best fairway maintenance in the region.
Montreux runs in parallel with Galena Creek, an enchanting area to go hiking for all ages.
