Mountain homes in Montreux
Homebuyers can find a variety of styles in Montreux, ranging from luxurious stone mansions to cozy log cabins. Ranch-style homes are common, often painted with forest colors of green and brown. Many homes are tucked into the hillside and surrounded by mature pine trees that tower above the landscape. Hilly streets are lined with trees and lead residents through the neighborhood. The area has no sidewalks, but the wide, quiet streets make it easy for an evening stroll or a morning jog. Three-bedroom homes typically range from $1 million to $3 million, depending on how new the house is and the square footage of the home. Four and five-bedroom homes can cost anywhere from $3 million to $9 million. Residents will have to pay monthly HOA fees, which range from around $300 to $400 per month. Montreux also has a CAP Index score of 1, compared to the national average of 4, indicating a low risk of crime.Outdoor fun in the Galena Forest
Montreux centers around one main attraction: the Montreux Golf & Country Club, a par-72 championship course designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. “I think the golf course is a huge draw. Jack Nicklaus said it was one of his top four or five designs the first time he played it,” says Drakulich. “It’s a beautiful course, but on top of that, you have access to trails and forest service land. Just lots to do outdoors.” This scenic course is highlighted by its signature 17th hole, which features a 138-foot drop from the tees to the fairways. The club also includes tennis courts, a fitness center and a swimming pool. Outdoors enthusiasts can visit the vast Galena Creek Regional Park on eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada to explore its hiking, biking and horseback riding trails, which follow creeks and lead to the tops of ridges. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities in the winter. The Galena Creek Visitor Center provides outdoor educational programs and guided hikes for children throughout the year. Residents are also just a 10-mile drive from Mt. Rose, a popular ski resort with the highest base elevation of any ski area at Lake Tahoe.Successful sports at Washoe County Schools
Students in Montreux will likely attend Hunsberger Elementary School, Herz Middle School and Galena High School. Each school receives an A-minus rating from Niche. Students can enroll in Galena High’s unique outdoor academy, which prepares them for outdoor-related careers like wilderness search-and-rescue and working for the Red Cross. The school also has a successful athletic history, winning state championships in cross country, rifle and softball.A scenic drive along Mt. Rose Highway
Mt. Rose Highway is the main road to nearby cities from Montreux. “One of the best things about Montreux is that you’re only 10 or 15 minutes down the hill to shopping and dining. You’re only 30 minutes from the airport. You can be on a ski lift at Mt. Rose in 15 minutes, and you’re 25 minutes from the shores of Lake Tahoe,” says Drakulich. Downtown Reno is about 19 miles from the neighborhood on Interstate 580, while Reno-Tahoe International Airport is just a 15-mile drive away and Carson City is accessible within a 25-mile drive down I-580.Head to Reno for local flavor
Residents who are members of the Montreux Golf & Country Club can enjoy a chef-curated meal at the Clubhouse or opt for a more casual experience at Jack’s Pub, located at the fitness center. Mt. Rose Highway leads residents to the outskirts of Reno, where they can enjoy breakfast at Sunrise Café or pick up pizza and pasta from Mofo’s. Raley’s O-N-E Market is a full-service supermarket in the same shopping center as Mofo’s, offering groceries, a pharmacy and other household items. Just east on Mt. Rose Highway, residents can visit the Shayden Summit Reno shopping mall, home to stores like Williams Sonoma, Dillard’s, Talbots and more.
