What it’s like to live in Ginter Park
Located in Richmond ’s North Side, Ginter Park is a vibrant community with diverse housing near parks and restaurants. Its homes range from modest Cape Cods to spacious Colonial Revivals in the Ginter Park Historic District. Kids can attend the highly rated Linwood Holton Elementary School, and there are private schools nearby. The neighborhood is close to popular restaurants and stores in Brookland Park and Bellevue, which can be within walking distance for some. The Lewis Ginter Recreation Association has a pool that’s a popular place to get outside in the summer, and Bryan Park is nearby.
How much it costs to buy in Ginter Park
The median home sale price in Ginter Park is in the lower $500,000s, higher than Richmond’s overall median and in the nearby communities of Northern Barton Heights and Laburnum Park. Most homes cost between the upper $300,000s and the lower $800,000s, but those over 3,000 square feet can cost from the mid-$800,000s to $1.7 million. “It definitely depends on how updated the house is,” says eXp Realty Realtor Danae Dobler, who has been working with clients locally for around 10 years.
Early 20th-century architecture with historic details
Most homes were built between 1900 and 1930. “Even though the homes have, for the most part, all been updated, their original character, everything that makes them unique, is the same,” Dobler says. American Foursquares are the most common, and you can also find Cape Cods, Colonial Revivals and Craftsman bungalows. Many homes have driveways, and some have detached garages. Parking is available on most streets. “It’s so close to everything, and people like the lot sizes and the sizes of the houses,” says Joan Peaslee, who lives nearby and is a real estate agent with Shaheen, Ruth, Martin & Fonville Real Estate. There are also apartment complexes along Chamberlayne and Laburnum avenues.
