Hickory Hill's scenery and open space make it attractive for families, and the lower price point is a plus for first-time homebuyers. “You’re just outside of the city, but you get a very suburban feel when you drive through,” says Susan Koutsoukos, a Realtor with United Real Estate Premier who’s lived in Richmond for over 30 years. “There’s good enough elbow room between each home that gives it that quiet feel — you’re not on top of neighbors like you would if you were within a city neighborhood.”
Kids in Hickory Hill can attend Richmond Public Schools. Depending on where they live, kids might attend either Broad Rock Elementary School or Cardinal Elementary School before heading to Thomas C. Boushall Middle School. All three are within a mile of the neighborhood. They can then head to Richmond High School for the Arts, which has a visual and performing arts theme, or apply to specialty or regional governor’s schools.
Downtown Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University’s Monroe Park campus in The Fan are around 15 minutes away. If you work in the medical field, the Richmond Veterans Administration Medical Center is a five-minute drive away, and VCU Medical Center is a 20-minute drive. Hopkins Road and Broad Rock Boulevard are the area’s main thoroughfares, and Interstate 95 is around 10 minutes away.
