Richmond streetcar suburb has historic homes in quiet setting
Laburnum Park is one of Richmond's earliest suburbs, attracting residents in the early 20th century. Its gradual growth was fostered by the streetcar lines that bordered it on both sides. Spanning 15 city blocks just north of downtown, this historic neighborhood remains a major attraction for homebuyers looking for a peaceful environment with vintage homes on lots that are uniquely large for being so close to the city. The neighborhood is shrouded in green with expansive front lawns and grassy, tree-lined medians. "This is a very nice area," says Sean Carlton, Realtor at Long and Foster Real Estate. "If you have a house in Laburnum Park, you're good to go."

Colonial and Tudor Revivals in Laburnum Park
Many of Laburnum Park's homes were built in the 1920s and early 1930s. Various architectural styles include Colonial Revivals with symmetrical window designs and columned entryways and Tudor Revivals with steeply-pitched roofs and intricate brickwork. Houses are set back on lots around half an acre with sprawling front yards large enough for a garden party. Long driveways lead to unattached garages, providing ample space for multiple vehicles. Prices range from $400,000 to $700,000, although stock is limited. “Houses rarely go up for sale in Laburnum Park, and when they do, they are snatched up quickly,” Carlton says.
