A peaceful atmosphere with easy access to Richmond in McGuire Manor
Located 4 miles south of the James River in Richmond, Virginia, McGuire Manor is an affordable residential neighborhood near everything the city has to offer. “You still have quick access to downtown Richmond without the noise of the city, which is a plus for a lot of people,” says Issac Abdelmalak, Realtor at Virginia Capital Realty.
Curved, walkable lanes lined with single-story homes
McGuire Manor’s suburban layout, complete with curving roads and cul de sacs, offers residents a laidback environment to ride bikes or walk the dog. Roads are narrow but most lots have driveways spacious enough to fit several cars. When taking a stroll through this neighborhood, you’ll find plenty of brick ranch homes, rectangular with large front windows and a low roofline, set back on level front lawns with mature landscaping. You’ll also find many compact, single-story vinyl-sided homes built in the 1950s, positioned close to each other on small lots. A few vinyl-clad split levels, distinct for their staggered-floor layout, are also dispersed throughout the area. The average price of a property in McGuire Manor is $175,000, which can typically get you a three-bedroom, two-bedroom ranch home on a quarter-acre lot. According to Abdelmalak, inventory is low, and due to the affordable price point compared to surrounding areas of Richmond, demand is very high.
Community green space at Cardinal Elementary School
Nestled into the neighborhood and within walking distance of many homes, you’ll discover the brand-new Cardinal Elementary School, which opened in 2021. Situated on 15 acres of land, the school offers state-of-the-art facilities and a community green space. Kids can also attend Thomas C. Boushall Middle School and George Wythe High School.
Mexican fare on Broad Rock Boulevard
When hunger strikes, this area has a lot of good options. Taco Bar, located on Broad Rock Boulevard, is a popular spot if you’re craving authentic Mexican cuisine. Don’t miss their popular California Burrito with tender marinated carne asada, cheese, salsa, avocado crema and french fries. A few doors down, you can purchase snacks and everyday items at Mini Market Latino & Gifts. For pantry staples, fresh produce and hot prepared meals such as crispy fried chicken and spiced potato wedges are available for takeaway at James Food Store.
Recreation at the Broad Rock Sports Complex
Across Warwick Road, you’ll find the spacious and well-maintained Broad Rock Sports Complex. Kids can play on the large playground with several climbing structures for different ages or enjoy one of several swing sets. With baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts and an open field, there’s plenty of space to run around and play games. Gather around one of a dozen picnic tables and enjoy a packed lunch, or fire up one of the park’s grills for an afternoon barbecue. Adjacent to the sports complex is the Broad Rock Public Library, offering internet access and a large selection of books.
Direct routes to downtown Richmond
“There’s a lot of public transportation that runs in that area, which makes it more accessible to a lot of areas,” Abdelmajak says. When you’re in McGuire Manor you also have quick access to Chippenham Parkway, which intersects with Midlothian Turnpike and provides straightforward routes to the greater Richmond area. Head to downtown Richmond by taking Hull Street Road to the Boulevard Bridge. From the bridge, enjoy sweeping views of the glistening James River and Richmond city skyline.
