Urban and suburban blend in Chesterfield County
Overlooking Midlothian Turnpike from the southwest side of Richmond, North Chesterfield offers all the convenience of city living without sacrificing the tranquility of suburban life. “It’s a quiet area, which appeals to a lot of homebuyers,” says Timothy Edwards, a Realtor with Virginia Capital Realty who’s been working with clients locally for more than 20 years. He notes that North Chesterfield’s location, in Chesterfield County less than 30 minutes from downtown Richmond, ticks a lot of boxes for homebuyers. “Chesterfield County schools are rated better than Richmond schools, so here, people get the schools they want with the yard space they want, and they’re still only 5 minutes away from shopping and dining. It’s a good compromise for people who work in the city but want to raise their family with more space around them,” he says.
With a convenient location and access to shopping, North Chesterfield has a lot to offer.

Wide variety of home options
The wide residential streets throughout North Chesterfield are lined with everything from 1970s ranch-style homes and 1980s Colonial Revivals to early 2000s Modern Transitional-style homes. There are even contemporary apartment complexes and townhomes. The median sale price hovers close to $330,000, which is on par with the median for the wider Richmond metro. Four-bedroom, three-bathroom ranch-style or Colonial Revival-style homes tend to sell for around the median, while smaller townhomes go for closer to $250,000 and newer builds go for more like $450,000. “Homes generally sell for at or over asking price here because although they’re older, they’ve been maintained well and the properties are a little bigger than what you’ll get as you go east toward the city proper,” says Edwards.

Chesterfield County schools
North Chesterfield is part of the Chesterfield County Public Schools system. The exact path each youngster follows during their grade school career changes depending on their address, so parents are advised to double-check the boundary maps ahead of registration. Many students go to Reams Road Elementary, Providence Middle and Monacan High School. In 2023, both Reams Road and Providence earned C-plus grades from Niche. Monacan High School earned a B-plus that same year. The high school is home to two specialty programs: the Center for the Humanities and the Health Professions & Therapies Center. Students interested in either program can apply during their eighth-grade year in preparation for entering high school.
