A master-planned community growing since the 1990s
The master-planned community of Enchanted Hills is in Rio Rancho, west of the Rio Grande River. To the east, the Sandia Mountains are on display. "The City of Vision," as Rio Rancho is called, has grown over the decades and continues to expand. The development of Enchanted Hills started in the late 1990s, though homes are still being added in the 2020s. "It's mostly filled in, and what's not filled in yet, the developers are looking at," says Dagna Altheide, an associate broker with Realty One of New Mexico. "Many, many of the homes, if they are facing the right direction, have expansive views," Altheide says.
There's some architectural variety in Enchanted Hills
Enchanted Hills has flat-roofed Pueblo-style architecture and contemporaries, seen with shingled roofing and stonework or brick. Some homes incorporate Mediterranean elements, like columned archways and clay tile roofs. Homes sell in the mid $200,000s to $500,000s, with square footage and age typically accounting for the range. Various homebuilders have added to Enchanted Hills, bringing homeowners associations with them. "Enchanted Hills is a little bit more confined than some other developments; you'd probably end up with a few more covenants and restrictions now that it's nearly fully developed," Altheide says. "It's been bought up by almost every developer. They have a few lots left, but you're sandwiched in between the HOAs."Front yards have drought-tolerant plants and hardscaping beside tidy sidewalks. Though Enchanted Hills is not a gated community, many streets are short, curved or have cul-de-sacs, reducing traffic. Additionally, the CAP Index Crime Score in Enchanted Hills is 2 out of 10; the national average is 4.

Rio Rancho's public schools have high rankings
Depending on their addresses, students may attend Vista Grande Elementary School or Sandia Vista Elementary School, both of which earn A-minus grades from Niche. Mountain View Middle School receives an A and Cleveland High School has an A-minus. More high schools are being added as Rio Rancho grows. The district also oversees RioTech, which focuses on trade career paths; Rio Rancho Cyber Academy, an online school for middle and high school levels; and an alternative school, Independence High.

Major roads, Rio Metro bus service and Rail Runner station
U.S. Route 550 and state Route 528 are easily accessible from Enchanted Hills. Paseo del Volcan Northeast and Enchanted Hills Boulevard Northeast are roads with bike lanes. Rio Metro offers a bus route from Bernalillo to Enchanted Hills, which has a stop at the Sandoval County/U.S. 550 Station for the New Mexico Rail Runner Express commuter line. The station, about 4 miles southeast of Enchanted Hills, has more than 400 parking spaces. For air travel, it's about a 26-mile trip to Albuquerque International Sunport.
Mountain View Park, trails and Santa Ana Golf Club
Mountain View Park and Enchanted Hills Park both have playgrounds and walking paths. Enchanted Hills Path is a dog-friendly trail that runs through Mountain View Park. On the other side of U.S. 550, there's the Santa Ana Golf Club, affiliated with the Santa Ana Pueblo, a tribal community about 6 miles from Enchanted Hills. The club has bookable tee times and hosts the Native American Open. Dining options at the club include the Wind Dancer Bar & Grill and the Prairie Star Restaurant, housed in a 100-plus-year-old adobe structure. Santa Ana's sister establishment, Twin Warriors Golf Club, is nearby.Altheide says hot-air ballooning is a pastime many people in Rio Rancho participate in. Rainbow Park, a balloon-launching site, is about 13 miles southwest of Enchanted Hills.
The Turquoise Desert Taproom and THE BLOCK
A commercial center to the southeast around Enchanted Hills Boulevard Northeast and SR-528 has an Albertson's Market and assorted businesses. One of these, the Turquoise Desert Taproom, has a sports bar vibe and a from-scratch menu. The Plaza at Enchanted Hills features THE BLOCK, a venue known for outdoor dining and events. "There's really nice, fresh food there in the open-air food market," Altheide says. THE BLOCK's calendar includes trivia, comedy shows, live music and pop-up markets. The HUB community center at the plaza has a library, pickleball courts, fitness classes and a variety of programs.
Rio Rancho Events like the Mayor's Sunday Funday
In August, the Mayor's Sunday Funday is a big event held at Haynes Park, about 11 miles away. Family friendly entertainment, food and activities are part of the fun. Other significant occasions include Rio Rancho's Fall Festival, Oktoberfest and the Park in the Park car show in April. The Rio Rancho Event Center, previously named the Santa Ana Star Center, accommodates about 7,000 and is approximately 8 miles from Enchanted Hills.
