Adults can use the fitness center and take cooking classes in its kitchen. “We try to help the community out by giving them opportunities they might not find elsewhere,” says Kittles. First Street Park has a playground and basketball courts, and people plant flowers and vegetables at the Market Gardens. High Falls, the tallest waterfall in Rochester along the Genesee River, is east of the neighborhood. A state park to increase public access to the waterfall and the river gorge is in the works. “It’s beneficial for people’s physical, mental and emotional well-being to get outside, and we want this to be a park for everyone,” says Helen Dumas, director of urban engagement at the Genesee Land Trust.
