Camino
Established 1950s homes
Houses in Camino are mostly ranch-style and tri-level builds from the 1950s. These properties are clustered into subdivisions featuring quiet residential roads shaded by mature trees. Homes range in price from $500,000 to just over $950,000. “It’s a very competitive market, and the prices reflect that,” says Molly Lukenbill-Elorduy of Coldwell Banker Realty, who has a decade of experience in the area. “The homes are older, but you just don’t get the lot size with newer developments, and some people really value that.” Roads wind and don't have much through traffic, and most have attached garages and long driveways for easy parking. Dog walkers, runners and parents should note that there are not many sidewalks in the neighborhood.El Camino Fundamental High passes the test
Kids in Camino head to the San Juan Unified School District, beginning with Starr King Elementary School. Starr King is a kindergarten through eighth grade school with a C-plus Niche rating. The school features a student-teacher ratio of 21-to-1 and has an A rating in student diversity. Teens move on to El Camino Fundamental High School, which has an A-minus Niche score. The school is known for its Eagle Polytechnic Institute, where students take classes focused on manufacturing and engineering. El Camino Fundamental is also known for its strong choir and theater programs. There are also a handful of private school options nearby.Fun at Maddox Park
The large Maddox Park, walkable from some homes and bordering Starr King, features plenty of green space, a playground and tables for an afternoon picnic. Locals head to Windermere Park, walkable from homes on the western side of Camino, for a pick-up basketball game or sports on a multi-purpose field. Just a mile to the east is the American River and the American River Parkway, which is home to Ancil Hoffman Park. The park features miles of trails that are open to hikers, cyclists and horseback riders. The Ancil Hoffman Golf Course is an 18-hole championship experience and also offers private lessons and club fittings. The American River is a popular spot with anglers, and other residents just like to sit by the river and take in the view.Dining at 19 Handles
There's a large retail area in the southwestern part of the neighborhood, which contains restaurants and a few other shopping opportunities. 19 Handles Pub & Grill is popular for beer flights and classic American fare. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has patio seating for outdoor dining. 500 F Pizza X Taphouse is the spot for daily happy hour specials. The pizza joint also has plenty of televisions to watch the big game. The Mandarin is a casual Chinese spot with a full bar, and there's a Whole Foods in the same strip to stock up on groceries. Country Club Plaza is a full retail mall just a mile west of the neighborhood.Riding along 160
Camino has plenty of Sacramento Regional Transit bus stops, which can take residents around the neighborhood or eight miles to the state capital. Those who prefer driving can take Highway 160 and be downtown in under 20 minutes. The neighborhood is located between Route 50 and Interstate 80, which provides easy access to the rest of Northern California.
