Texa-Tonka
Early- and mid-20th century homes
Texa-Tonka has a mix of early- and mid-20th-century housing, mostly cozy cottages with a few ranch-style homes and American Foursquares. These homes’ interiors have often been updated to accommodate modern lifestyles, but they keep their exterior charm, making them unique compared to homes in other Minneapolis suburbs. “There’s a lot of character to the housing here, more than in some other areas because it was built out in the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s,” says Realtor Gary Metchnek, who’s sold in the area for over 20 years. “In most of the other suburbs, you’re going to find more cookie-cutter homes.” In addition to single-family homes, there are a few townhouses in the neighborhood. Prices tend to fall between $300,000 and $500,000.Education in St. Louis Park
Students in Texa-Tonka attend schools in the St. Louis Park Public School District. They start at Aquila Elementary and St. Louis Park Middle School, which received Bs on the educational review site, Niche, before continuing to St. Louis Park High School, which received an A-minus and is best known for its award-winning student newspaper. Parents interested in language immersion can apply to send their children to Park Spanish Immersion Elementary, a public school in the district that instructs students primarily in Spanish.Drive downtown in 10 minutes or bike the Cedar Lake Trail

Most houses in the neighborhood are a short walk from one of these two parks. There’s also a Cub in the shopping center, though residents can pick up some groceries at Brookies Fish Market in the neighborhood. The bar at the bowling alley Texa-Tonka Lanes keeps it an active weekend hangout, though happy hour specials on weekdays and discount games on Sundays make any time a good time to bowl.Fourth of July fireworks and an annual kite fly
