St. Paul Park is a riverside town that feels more remote than it is
St. Paul Park is a semirural Twin Cities suburb located about 15 minutes southeast of downtown St. Paul. Set on the east bank of the Mississippi River, it has a distinctly small-town feel that sets it apart from the sprawling south St. Paul suburbs. “It’s definitely a bit more blue collar, and a bit more country than homes on the other side of the river,” says Realtor and area native Mark Duffy of Duffy Homes Group-Keller Williams. “The river’s a big part of life here, for work and for recreation. Fishing and boating are just kind of what people do here in their free time.” While many locals commute to the Twin Cities, a fair number work at the expansive St. Paul Park Refinery, which is owned by Marathon Petroleum and produces about 100,000 barrels of refined oil per day. Air pollution and noise from the refinery can be a concern for residents living nearby.
Factories in Saint Paul Park provide many blue-collar jobs for local residents.

Modest ranch-style homes and bungalows with lots of tree cover
Housing styles available in town include bungalows, ranch-style and split-level homes, and a few newer townhouses. Though the neighborhood is located along a river, it doesn’t have much riverfront property due to a natural bluff. Yards tend to be a bit larger than those in the city, and many properties back up onto local woods. Homes and townhouses in St. Paul Park generally sell for between $250,000 and $440,000, though some newer builds on the outskirts go for more.

Plenty of city parks and riverside hiking areas
Well-maintained city parks are distributed evenly around the area. Locals can find tennis courts at Abdella Memorial Park, a ball field at Axelrod Park and a badminton court at Heritage Park. The town also provides a toddler-friendly play space at Dingle Park and a community garden behind the fire station. Along the Mississippi River, Lions Levee Park has a boat launch and scenic overlook, while Riverside Park offers expansive nature trails. Fishing and river access are a big part of life here: many residents own boats and have favorite fishing spots along the river. There are also numerous nature preserves along the river outside of town, like Grey Cloud Dunes Scientific and Natural Area, that offer opportunities for hiking and wildlife viewing.

A small but vibrant downtown area
St. Paul Park has a cozy collection of local bars and restaurants, like Willie’s Restaurant, a bar and grill overlooking the Mississippi, and 328 Grill, a laid-back but highly rated hole in the wall. “The downtown area is livelier than you might expect,” says Duffy. “Obviously, the nightlife isn’t on par with Minneapolis, but it’s possible to have a fun night out without leaving town.” St. Paul Park is also home to Park Grove Bowl, a bowling alley and popular weekend hangout. Additional shopping and dining options are available across U.S. Route 10 in the adjacent town of Cottage Grove, which has a Hy-Vee grocery Store and a few big-box retailers.

Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport is 15 miles away. There is no public transportation in St. Paul Park, so residents rely on cars to get around.
