San Anselmo offers seclusion near city conveniences
San Anselmo is a secluded San Bernardino suburb with convenient city access and a myriad of nearby amenities. The established neighborhood is at the north end of town against the Cajun Wash, a tributary of the Lytle Creek Floodway. San Anselmo blossoms during Southern California's pink tree season, with fragrant magnolias lining its quiet drives. Fences laced with rose-hued lantana shrubs wrap around modest homes with mountainscapes in the distance.
Pueblo and Spanish-style homes selling for above asking price
Simple ranch designs with pueblo-style accents mix with Spanish-style architecture in San Anselmo. Some homeowners embrace spare desert landscaping, while others cultivate green yards lush with native flora. Midcentury homes with roughly 1,000 square feet of living space sell for $350,000, and spacious residences climb to $500,000 in San Anselmo. Prices here are comparatively lower than in nearby neighborhoods, but inventory is tight in this San Bernardino borough. Most homes sell above the asking price and receive multiple offers. "I tell my clients, you're paying a mortgage if you're renting here, so you may as well buy," says Maria Murray, Realtor at McDermott Realty.
Art and computer science programs enrich the student experience
The density of school facilities draws a lot of families with children to this residential area. Many local students attend Muscoy Elementary before continuing to Cesar E. Chavez Middle and Arroyo Valley, the district's newest high school. Students here can enroll in a visual and performing arts magnet program and take advantage of the school's large selection of computer technology courses.
Easy access to trails, skiing and green space
There are plenty of ways to get outside in San Anselmo. "It's close to the mountains and Big Bear," Murray notes of the popular nearby ski resort. Delman Heights Park is the neighborhood's outdoor gathering place. Locals bring the whole brood for baseball games or visit solo to walk the dog around the track. Shandin Hills Golf Club is also nearby, a public course surrounded by mountains. There are plenty of hiking trailheads heading north into the highlands, about a 5-mile ride to the nearest inlet.
Groceries and a popular barbecue spot close to home
San Bernardino locals rave about Spirit of Texas Craft Barbecue's smoked, roasted and grilled meats. The low-key outpost is a mile down the road and still has an off-the-radar status. Locals gather around tables with checkered tablecloths for a meal inspired by the flavors of the restaurant's namesake state. Chain grocers are within 2 miles of home.
Omnitrans buses and nearby jobs ease the daily commute
The hospital is a popular employment destination for residents who live nearby. San Anselmo is roughly an hour from downtown Los Angeles. Most residents drive to the office, but the Omnitrans buses serve the area along West Highland Avenue for people who prefer a car-free commute.
High-speed excitement at Glen Helen Raceway
San Anselmo residents live around the corner from the popular Glen Helen Raceway. The motocross track has desert views and a unique layout that keeps riders and spectators on their toes.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
