Shopping and dining, San-Francisco-style

On nearly every street, there’s a restaurant or bar. Diners can try a Swedish-American breakfast fusion at Sears Fine Food or deli sandwiches at Tommy’s Joynt, which has been serving the community for over 75 years. When going out for a drink, they can stop by Top of the Mark, a bar that is well-known for its panoramic 360-degree views. Lots of entertainment options

Residents won’t have trouble finding things to do in the neighborhood or even right outside it. They can head to Union Square, a bustling district filled with restaurants, retail and nightlife. They can also explore Chinatown and Japantown to discover the Asian and Pacific Islander cultures that have shaped the community. Relaxation and recreation downtown

The parks around downtown offer a variety of activities and relaxing spots. Huntington Square Park features an elegant stone fountain and plenty of benches to take a rest. Betty Ann Ong Recreation Center is known as “Chinatown’s backyard” and is a great place to play a game of ping-pong, host a community meeting or attend an after-school program. Father Alfred E. Boeddeker Park offers a playground and basketball court, and its community clubhouse hosts activity programs.

Condos with views

Homes have unique exterior designs that reflect both an adaptability to the hilly urban landscape and San Francisco’s funky aesthetic. According to Davidson, one style is especially common to the neighborhood. “You have a mix of old condo buildings with sweeping views, some of the Bay or Coit Tower or downtown,” he says. Along with luxury condos, Victorian buildings and brick complexes reflect the cosmopolitan lifestyle of the city. Homes range from $360,000 to $2.2 million. The housing market is slow, with homes remaining on the market for about 80 days, nearly double the national average.

San Francisco Unified School District

Children can attend schools in the San Francisco Unified School District. Redding Elementary School received a B-plus grade from Niche while Marina Middle School received an A-minus. Galileo High School, rated A, was counted among Niche’s top five standout schools in the Bay Area and was listed in “Newsweek” Magazine’s America’s Top High Schools. The school offers both Academies and Pathways, programs tailored to academic disciplines like engineering and digital communication to give field-focused education. There are also several private school options that are located closer to the downtown area.

The many ways of traveling around the neighborhood

The downtown area is great for pedestrians thanks to its many sidewalks and walkable districts. Several of the downtown streets are long, one-way avenues, while others have bike lanes painted green to visibly mark them for cyclists. Residents can take the subway or catch a ride on San Francisco’s famous cable cars that traverse the steep hilly terrain. When going beyond the neighborhood, drivers have their choice of two major roadways: Interstate-80 and US-101. I-80 runs from San Francisco to Teaneck, New Jersey while US-101 connects to Sausalito and further out to Los Angeles to the south and Tumwater, Washington to the north. When venturing out beyond the city by plane, San Francisco International Airport is about fourteen miles away.
