Merced Manor is a small, suburban-style neighborhood on San Francisco's western side. It's been a city favorite since its development in the 1930s thanks to its well-kept homes, tree-lined streets and easy proximity to local shopping destinations like West Portal and Stonestown Galleria.

Homes have small front and backyards with manicured landscaping, which is relatively rare in San Francisco. “It’s a very elegant neighborhood with wide streets and easy parking,” says Realtor Patrick Lam of Century 21 Masters, who has worked in the city for more than a decade. “It’s a great place to invest in a home.”
“It’s a nice residential area that’s close to a lot of outdoor stuff, as you have Lake Merced right there, and it's next to Pine Lake Park,” says Tim Gullicksen, a local realtor at Corcoran Icon Properties and San Francisco resident for over 20 years. “It’s a popular area for more active types because there’s a lot of recreational opportunities around here.” Merced Manor borders several green spaces, including Pine Lake Park and Lake Merced. These areas offer miles of walking trails, playgrounds, open fields and wooded scenery. Lake Merced Park is one of the city's largest parks and includes two golf courses and a fishing pier. The nearby Sigmund Stern Grove park adds to the outdoor appeal with its forest landscape and seasonal events. Cyclists have easy access to routes around Lake Merced and the Great Highway.
San Francisco uses a citywide school choice system, and families submit ranked preferences rather than receiving assignments tied strictly to their home address. This offers flexibility but also means an assigned school may not be the closest one. Merced Manor borders the campus of Lowell High School, one of the city’s best-rated public schools, and San Francisco State University is less than a mile away.
The neighborhood is close to major commercial areas, including Stonestown Galleria, which offers retail stores, groceries and lots of dining options. Ocean Avenue offers additional restaurants, shops and a Lucky grocery store within walking distance. The popular West Portal district, known for its small-town feel, is about a mile north of the neighborhood.

Areas around Lowell High School, Sloat Boulevard and Ocean Avenue can become congested when school lets out and during commuting times. Interior residential streets remain calm most of the day.
