The Outer Sunset offers a relaxing lifestyle near the coast
Outer Sunset is a coastal neighborhood on San Francisco’s west side. It’s bordered to the north by Golden Gate Park and to the west by Ocean Beach, so residents are just blocks away from some of the prettiest spots in the city. The area is mostly residential, with a few small commercial districts scattered around. Outer Sunset is among the quietest neighborhoods in San Francisco, but it also lacks direct highway routes to the city center, which can make commuting a little more difficult. It’s also well known for its thick morning fog, which is a very regular occurrence and gets mixed reviews from residents.

Community feel and housing prices in Outer Sunset
Housing in Outer Sunset is dominated by early- to mid-20th century wood-frame homes and low-rise apartment buildings laid out on a strict grid. “The lack of big commercial areas gives the neighborhood so much charm,” says veteran real estate agent Amanda Jones of Compass, who has worked in the area for over 20 years. “It’s mostly single-family housing, so the density is lower and you get better sky views. People know their neighbors." Lot sizes are generally larger than in the city center, while housing prices are slightly lower — though still high compared to national averages. Bungalows, Spanish-style homes with stucco roofs and transitional-fusion homes make up most of the architectural landscape. Home prices range from just over $1 million to around $2.5 million. Unlike many coastal California neighborhoods, proximity to the beach doesn’t have a huge impact on housing prices, as it generally means more traffic and more fog exposure.

Next to Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park
Outer Sunset’s identity is shaped by Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park, which together function as a shared backyard for the neighborhood. The west end of Golden Gate Park — home to the historic Dutch and Murphy windmills, Golden Gate Park Golf Course and Spreckels Lake — is just north of the neighborhood. To the west, Ocean Beach and the Great Highway offer some of the most scenic walking and biking trails in the city. “Everybody loves Golden Gate, and they love the windmills,” says Jones. “Every New Year’s Day, I like to walk the Great Highway. It’s so peaceful.” Both the beach and the park are home to multiple playgrounds, so there are plenty of spots for kids to run around. Locals are also a short drive from the San Francisco Zoo, Fort Funston hiking and Lake Merced Park.

Because this area is mostly residential and small business-centric, there are not many nearby workout facilities. However, because the sidewalks are fairly wide and quite easy to run on (depending on which direction you're going -- downhill in one direction, uphill in another), people tend to take advantage of them, and it is not uncommon to see people running on them during any time of the day. There is also one nearby healthcare center.

It's really difficult. Lot of people looking for jobs, but not that many openings.
