Almaden Lake
Popular seasonal events and year-round recreation at Almaden Lake Park
Almaden Lake Park, an outdoor recreation hub, is within walking distance of all residences, meaning locals can avoid the parking fees. The park is a popular spot for fishing, picnicking and playing bocce; dog walkers and cyclists can take the loop around the lake, which connects to Guadalupe River Trail heading north and Los Alamitos Creek Trail heading south. The amphitheater offers prime seating for events like the Fourth of July fireworks and the Water Lantern Festival; the sparkling fireworks and the glowing paper lanterns create reflections on the lake at night. The park’s seasonal concession stand offers snacks and drinks. Families can also play mini golf at Golfland San Jose or go to the outdoor pool at South Valley Family YMCA.Across the highway from Westfield shopping center
Homes are less than a mile from various shopping, dining and grocery options. Within the neighborhood, Almaden Valley Nursery sells plants, Crossroads Trading offers secondhand items and Ariake serves sushi. Across the highway, the indoor Westfield Oakridge mall has retailers like Macy’s, Apple and Target, plus a movie theater and an indoor playground called Jolly Roger Land. Residents can take their pick of chain restaurants like the Cheesecake Factory and supermarkets like Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Costco.Contemporary condos and upscale manufactured homes
Neighborhood streets lined with trees that turn scarlet in the fall have bike lanes and sidewalks. Contemporary 1980s condos range from about $530,000 to $900,000. There are a few New Traditional homes, which cost between $1.2 million and $1.75 million. Manufactured homes selling in the $400,000s can be found in Imperial San Jose Mobile Estates, a mobile home park with a community pool and clubhouse. Most of Almaden Lake is at risk of flooding, except for the southeastern quadrant of the neighborhood.Proximity to State Routes 87 and 85
The neighborhood is close to State Routes 85 and 87 and several electric vehicle charging stations. Almaden Lake borders Almaden Expressway. “All the areas are going to be high traffic,” Casey says. “But you really don’t need a car; you can get around. It’s close to everything. And there’s a bus service.” Local Valley Transportation Authority bus routes stop throughout the neighborhood, and Good Samaritan Hospital and Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center are less than 5 miles away. Almaden Lake is about 10 miles south of San Jose Mineta International Airport.Public schools less than 3 miles away
Schools like Allen at Steinbeck Elementary School, rated C-plus on Niche; Castillero Middle, rated B-plus; and Gunderson High, rated B, aren’t far from the neighborhood.
