The neighborhood’s residential streets offer up a patchwork of midcentury-era homes, tall trees and quiet cul-de-sacs. Ranch styles, Traditional and split-level homes are the most common home designs. They were largely built in the late 1960s and 70s during the Almaden Valley construction boom and have been lovingly maintained by their owners over the years. Prices range from $2 million to $3 million depending on their size, acreage and renovations. Residents are within walking distance of Glenview Park, just south of the neighborhood, a community green space with a playground, picnic area and walking paths. Also nearby is Almaden Golf & Country Club, a private, members-only club built in the 1950s. The club has hosted numerous PGA and LPGA tournaments over the years, desired for its pristine greens, gorgeous mountain views and scenic surroundings. The Santa Cruz Mountains are a local hotspot for hiking, biking and outdoor recreation. Places like Almaden Quicksilver County Park offer plenty of trail networks, some of which are accessible from nearby residential streets. “Quicksilver was a huge mercury mine and mining town in the 1800s. There’s so much hiking and nature there now, but it’s also got a ton of history,” says Realtor Matt Tenczar of Compass Real Estate, a longtime Almaden Valley resident.Public schools stand out in Glenview Serenity
Schools are a major draw for prospective homebuyers moving to Almaden Valley, and the area has some of the highest rated public schools in all of San Jose. Students can start at Williams Elementary School, which gets an A rating from Niche. The school was a 2023 winner of the California Distinguished Schools Award, and a past winner of the National Blue Ribbon award. The next step is A-minus-rated Bret Harte Middle followed by Leland High School, a sought-after STEM school with an A rating. The neighborhood’s proximity to the mountains puts it at a slightly higher risk for wildfires than neighborhoods closer to the city’s urban core. The neighborhood is at San Jose’s southern edge, putting it slightly removed from major highways. State Routes 85 and 17 are about 5 miles away. Commuting to Downtown San Jose, Cupertino or Palo Alto can get there in around 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Several small shopping plazas are within a short walk or drive. Almaden Center has a Safeway, an ACE Hardware store and a few restaurants. There’s also Almaden Via Valiente Plaza, home of Pomodoro Pizza, a long-running Italian spot known for their fresh ingredients. For everything else, it’s about 11 miles to Downtown San Jose. The city’s downtown district offers a wide range of big city amenities, from walkable outdoor malls and breweries to Michelin-rated restaurants and food halls.
